Itinerary

Day 1: Birds, Fresh Sushi and Tranquil Flatey Island
Today, you will be picked up at your place of accommodation in Reykjavik (pre-tour accommodation can be arranged on request) and taken to the village Stykkishólmur on Snæfellsnes Peninsula. From there, you’ll embark on a nature cruise and explore the archipelago of Breiðafjörður Bay. You‘ll viewing countless beautiful islands, curious cliffs and see thousands of birds, including puffins, arctic terns, and the majestic white-tailed eagle! Among the highlights on today’s journey is a stop at Dimonaklakkar Island, with its amazing views and opportunities to watch birds up-close. As a wonderful treat, a small net-plough is cast overboard and shellfish delicacies are brought on board, allowing you to taste delicious shellfish straight from the sea. This is the freshest sushi you will ever try! There is time for sea-angling before arriving at peaceful Flatey Island. The well-preserved old houses are from the 19th century; walking around the old village is like taking a step back in time. Your guide will take you on a walk around the tiny village, the church, the bird-cliffs and a number of historic sites. Tonight you will enjoy a dinner at the charming hotel; dinner will be a variety of fish-dishes, including today´s catch! Stay the night at Hotel Flatey.

Day 2: Towering Bird Cliffs, Whales and Dolphins
In the morning, after a good breakfast and a briefing of today´s itinerary, you will sail towards Látrabjarg Cliffs; one of the world’s most dramatic bird-cliffs and the westernmost point of Europe. Sailing by the 14 km long and 444m high cliffs, experiencing the countless birds and watching the skerries are experiences not to be forgotten! For centuries, brave men were roped down the cliffs during the breeding season to collect eggs. Sometimes as many as 40,000 eggs and 36,000 birds were taken in this area alone. The cliffs were therefore a vital part of the area‘s food supply. Lunch is served on board, before continuing to explore the stunning area known for whales, dolphins and seals—so keep an eye out for them. Arrival at Flatey will be in the late afternoon and you will have time to relax, enjoy dinner, and explore the timeless island at your own pace.

Day 3: Deserted Fjords, Serene Nature and Natural Hot Tubs
The day starts by exploring the surrounding islands of Flatey, before heading towards the deserted inlet, “Skálmafjörður“. There, your group is taken ashore on zodiacs. You have free time to explore the area, known for old ruins, unspoilt nature, wild foxes and amazing peacefulness.
Enjoy a barbeque on the beach before going back on board, heading this time towards Vatnsfjordur Fjord. Here, the boat is anchored and passengers are transferred ashore by zodiacs. Enjoy a soak in a natural geothermal hot tub, right next to the seashore. Arrive in Stykkishólmur in the late afternoon, where your transfer to Reykjavik awaits you.
