This guided group tour takes you on a classic route around Iceland, emphasising Iceland’s unique natural wonders. The groups are relatively small, driving distances per day are moderate and accommodation is in guesthouses. An experienced professional guide will take you to Iceland’s most beautiful gems and introduce you to the nation’s history, culture and way of life. The itinerary has been sculpted around some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland and other highlights that no visitor should miss out on. You will have plenty of time to explore these as well as hidden gems off the beaten track, all under the reliable care of our experienced guide. You will see spouting geysers, thunderous waterfalls, stunning glaciers, vast deserts and fertile farmlands—all on this one exotic tour.
Day 1: Arrival
Arrival in Keflavík and meet and greet followed by transportation to your hotel in Reykjavík. After settling into the hotel you will have free time to explore the city on your own. In the afternoon/evening there will be a short information meeting with your guide.
Day 2: Gullfoss – Geysir
The first leg of the journey takes you to one of the most well known area, The Golden Circle. The drive includes stops at some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland including Þingvellir National Park, the great Geysir area
and Gullfoss. Overnight stay in Hvolsvollur area.
Day 3: The South Coast
We start the day by seeing two beautiful waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss and Skogarfoss. After visiting the Skogar Museum we drive to Vík, the volcanic beach south of the village. From there you can view the rock formations Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar. We then head on to Skaftafell area for overnight stay. NOTE! Dyrholaey is closed from middle of May till June 23rd during nesting season.
Day 4: South-East Iceland
We spend the morning exploring Skaftafell area with its many optional hiking routes. On we go to the breathtaking glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón. Stay overnight in Djúpivogur area on Iceland’s southeast corner, right by Vatnajökull, Europe’s
largest glacier by far.
Day 5: East Fjords - Lake Mývatn
We drive trough spectacular fjord scenery and visit charming fishing villages as we head to the capital of east Iceland, Egilsstaðir. Among notable sites along the way are the majestic Mt. Búlandstindur and the village Stöðvafjörður. Once you have traversed the eastern fjords and moorlands, prepare yourself to be amazed by the unique natural beauty of Lake Mývatn and surroundings. You will take in the lunar landscapes of Námaskarð pass and Skútustaðagígar pseudo craters. Overnight in the area. NOTE! Long day.
Day 6: The Pearls of the North
The canyon Ásbyrgi and Dettifoss, the most powerful waterfall in Europe, are both located in the wondrous and varied Jökulsárgljúfur National Park north of
Lake Mývatn. Today we visit these unique sites as we head to the beautiful coastal village Húsavík, best known for its excellent whale watching tours. We spend the afternoon in Húsavík. Overnight in the area.
Day 7: Akureyri - North West
We leave the beautiful area of Myvatn. We stop by the waterfall Goðafoss on our way to Akureyri, the ‘Capital of the North’. We take a stroll in the town central which is always full of life during summer. After Akureyri we head off the North West part of Iceland for overnight stay.
Day 8: Borgarfjordur - Reykjavik
After visiting Deildartunguhver, the most voluminous hot spring in Europe; the beautiful waterfalls Hraunfossar and the historic site Reykholt, we finish our circle round Iceland by returning to Reykjavík.
Day 9: Departure
Fly bus transport to Keflavík Airport.
