From the soothing geothermal waters in the crisp Arctic nights to the dazzling northern lights above, it’s hard not to fall in love with the romantic atmosphere of an Icelandic winter. This relaxing self-drive journey includes some of the most remarkable sights in Iceland along with plenty of chances for you and your sweetheart to experience adventurous activities and natural rejuvenation.
Day 1: Warm Welcome to the Blue Lagoon
Arrive at Keflavik Airport, where you are personally greeted by a Nordic Visitor representative. At this time you will pick up your rental vehicle and receive all of your travel documents for the journey ahead. Then it‘s only a short distance along the Reykjanes Peninsula to the Blue Lagoon, the famous geothermal spa surrounded by surreal lava formations. Here, you can soak away your jet lag in the healing mineral waters or perhaps enjoy an optional skin treatment or in-water massage.* Spend the night at the Blue Lagoon Clinic Hotel or the Northern Light Inn. Day 2: Southern Comforts
Enjoy a tasty breakfast before heading out towards the pristine area of South Iceland. For a real Icelandic gourmet experience, we recommend a stop at one of the south coast’s renowned seafood restaurants in the afternoon. The charming seaside village of Eyrarbakki is also worth a visit with its picture-perfect beach and well-preserved houses from the late 19th century. You can enjoy optional mud bath straight from Hveragerðis hot springs at NLFI Health Clinic. Spend the night at the charming Grimsborgir Luxury Guest House and end the evening in the outdoor Jacuzzis. If you’re lucky, you may see the northern lights dancing in the sky!* Driving distance approx. 175 km.

Day 3: A Golden Day
Today, take in some of the best known attractions that southern Iceland has to offer on the popular Golden Circle route. Start with a visit to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site and an area of unique geology, history, and natural beauty. Then head to the great Geysir geothermal area to witness the frequent eruptions of the Strokkur geyser before arriving at the stunning two-tiered Gullfoss (“Golden Falls”) waterfall. You can also visit other attractions nearby such as Kerið, a small volcanic crater lake, and the historical site of Skálholt. Spend another night at Grímsborgir Luxury Guest House. Driving distance approx. 110 km.

Day 4: Waterfalls and Natural Wonders
Start the day with a visit to the graceful Seljalandsfoss waterfall and experience walking behind its misty cascade. Next, continue to the magnificent 60-metre high Skógafoss waterfall in Skógar, where you will also find a folk museum with many interesting artefacts including an old turf farm. Further along at Mýrdalsjökull glacier, you have the opportunity to partake in a guided glacier hike (optional). Then, head towards the stunning black sand beach south of Vík for a view of the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations. Further along at Mýrdalsjökull glacier, you have the opportunity to partake in a guided glacier hike (optional). Day 5: Glaciers and Icebergs
Begin the morning at the amazing Skaftafell area in Vatnajökull National Park. Here, many interesting trails await hikers—including a path leading to the Svartifoss (“Black Falls”) waterfall, which spills over a wall of dark, hexagon-shaped basalt columns. Then, head east to one of Iceland’s most famous attractions, the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, where you can view the floating icebergs and perhaps get a glimpse of curious seals. Spend another night at Hotel Laki. Driving distance approx. 260 km.
Highlights: Skaftafell at Vatnajökull National Park and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.
Optional activities: Glacier hike (for all ages) or ice climbing at Skaftafell and kayaking tours (available all year unless water has frozen over).
Day 6: Black Sand Beaches
Today you have more time to explore Vatnajökull National Park and its beautiful surroundings. Then drive west along the south coast with worthwhile stops along the way including Fjaðrarárgljúfur Canyon and the Elf Cliffs of Dverghamrar or make another stop to Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar near Vík. Spend the night at the charming 4-star Hotel Rangá, which boasts panoramic views of Mt. Hekla and an attentive staff, who will even wake you during the night by request if the northern lights appear! Driving distance approx. 160 km.
Highlights: Fjaðrárgljúfur, Dverghamrar, Dyrhólaey, Vík and Reynisdrangar.
Optional activities: dog-sledding on a lava beach, glacier walk on Sólheimajökull glacier, horse-back riding.
Day 7: Return to Reykjavik
Head back to Reykjavik in the morning and spend the rest of the day exploring the capital area’s attractions as you wish. Along with museums, thermal pools and spas, local design boutiques, and other interesting downtown attractions you also have your pick of many superb restaurants and cafés. For those who wish to take part in Reykjavik’s legendary nightlife, the exciting variety of bars and nightclubs will not disappoint! Spend the night at Hotel Reykjavik Centrum or Grand Hotel Reykjavik. Driving distance approx. 95km.

Day 8: Home Sweet Home
When the time has come to say goodbye to this magical winter getaway, our driver will take you to Keflavik Airport in time for your departure flight.
