Introduction

Enjoy an action-packed 7-day city break with an amazing variety of guided day tours to some of Iceland´s biggest natural attractions, all accessible in just a short drive from Reykjavik! Highlights include a 4x4 Super Jeep tour in rugged highlands, snowmobiling on a glacier, river rafting, horseback riding, and (ATV) quad biking in lava landscapes. You will also have time to relax and enjoy all the cultural sites, museums, world-class dining, and nightlife that the capital city has to offer.

Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Reykjavik!
Upon arrival to Keflavik Airport, you are greeted by our driver who will take you to your accommodation in Reykjavík. After settling in, spend the rest of the day exploring the capital area’s attractions, including museums, naturally-heated pools and spas, Icelandic design shops, scenic surroundings, and much more. You also have your pick of superb restaurants and cafés in downtown Reykjavik along with a variety of bars and nightclubs if you wish to take part in the legendary Reykjavík nightlife. Spend the next six nights at a comfortable hotel or guesthouse in the heart of the city.

Highlights: Reykjavík

Day 2: Golden Circle & Glacier Adventure

Learn about Iceland´s unique geology and history with an enlightening guided bus tour along the famous “Golden Circle” route. Here, you will visit some of Iceland’s top attractions, including Þingvellir National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the great Geysir geothermal area with its spouting geyser and steaming hot springs, and beautiful Gullfoss, considered the pinnacle of Icelandic waterfalls. Finally, we kick the action into high gear with an incredible one-hour snowmobile ride at Iceland´s second largest glacier, Langjökull.

Highlights: Þingvellir National Park, Geysir, Gullfoss, & Langjökull glacier.

Day 3: Tame Horses, Untamed Rapids

Today’s activities give you a taste of Iceland’s unspoiled nature along with an introduction to the hardy Icelandic horse, the same breed that Viking settlers rode over 1,000 years ago. Starting at the beautiful Vellir farm in Ölfus, we spend the first half of the day with a horseback ride followed by lunch at Hótel Eldhestar. Next, we head to Hvítá, a glacial river flowing through the narrow Brúarhlöð canyon. * During our exciting 7-kilometre river rafting excursion, you will learn to ride the adrenaline-pumping rapids with the option of jumping into the river from a cliff!

Highlights: Hveragerði and Hvítá.

*Trip difficulty is level 2 out of a possible 5, and is rated as a moderately easy adventure, meaning it is suitable for families with teenagers. No children under 12 permitted. No prior rafting experience is required.

Day 4: The Sky is the Limit!
This is your day to explore the capital area and its surroundings however you wish. Downtown Reykjavík offers a wide range of attractions, including Alþingi, the Icelandic Parliament, or the bird’s-eye views from the tower at Hallgrímskirkja church, the city’s most visible landmark. You may also be interested in a hike in Reykjavik’s natural surroundings, such as Grótta in Seltjarnarnes, the lush Laugardalur valley, or the peaceful forested area of Öskjuhlíðin near Perlan (“The Pearl”). There are also plenty of optional activities to choose from for more experiences with Icelandic wildlife and nature.

Highlights: Hallgrímskirkja, Perlan, Alþingi, Laugardalur and Grótta.
Optional activities: whale-watching from Reykjavik harbour, horseback riding, guided city sightseeing tours, bicycle or walking tours, and more.

Day 5: Explore the Highlands by 4x4

We begin our adventurous 4x4 Super Jeep tour at Þjórsárdalur valley, where we can visit the lovely Hjálparfoss waterfall before breaking for lunch at the Hrauneyjar highland Center (Hálendismiðstöðin). Then, we continue to the otherworldly Landmannalaugar region deep in the forbidding highlands. Here in this area of unusual geological features, you have the option of bathing in natural hot pools or embarking on a short guided hike. Finally, our mighty jeeps climb 950 meters up Mt. Hekla, one of Iceland’s most famous volcanoes, where we are rewarded with astounding views over South Iceland.

Highlights: Þjórsárdalur, Hjálparfoss, Þjóðveldisbærinn, Landmannalaugar, Ljóti-Pollur, and Hekla volcano.

Day 6: Lava Landscapes

Today, we drive over lava fields and up mountains on a guided two-hour quad bike (ATV) tour of the Reykjanes peninsula! Highlights along the way include dramatic coastal scenery and geothermal areas with moon-like surroundings. After the exhilarating excursion, you can relax at the amazing Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, renowned for the reputed healing powers of its mineral-rich waters. Let your cares slip away as you unwind in the saunas and steam baths or soak in the radiant white-blue waters of the lagoon, ensuring that you are fully rejuvenated for your last night in Reykjavik.

Highlights: Krýsuvík, Selatangar, Blue Lagoon, and Eldey.

Day 7: Departure

Transportation to Keflavik Airport is provided via FlyBus. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 90 minutes before your scheduled departure. If your flight is in the afternoon, you can spend the morning exploring more of the Reykjavik area or taking part in an optional activity.
