This self-guided, self-catered 4X4 winter package offers a relaxing week in a cosy cottage in the scenic south of Iceland. The tour does not involve a great amount of driving and therefore gives you a chance to explore many of Iceland’s biggest attractions at your own pace. In the darker winter months, the Aurora Borealis are not an uncommon sight; the swirling, colourful displays, ranging from white to green, pink and blue or even in rare cases red, are truly an unforgettable sight to behold.

Day 1: A Day in Reykjavík
On arrival at Keflavík Airport, you’ll be met by your private chauffeur and transferred to Reykjavik. If you arrive early, we recommend stopping at the Blue Lagoon on your way to Reykjavík. Why not take a stroll in the city centre, to the pond to watch the birds and visit the Viking wax museum at the Pearl, where you can also enjoy a great view of the city. Stay overnight in the heart of Reykjavík.
Highlights: Reykjavík.
Day 2: Cultural Landscapes
After you receive your rental car you will visit the unique Þingvellir National Park; listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List and a site of immense beauty and
history. The Þingvellir plains are located on the north Atlantic rift that splits Iceland between the North American and Eurasian continents. You can swim between the continents on a snorkeling-or diving trip in the clear waters of the Silfra Rift*. From Þingvellir (optional), visit the volcanic crater Kerið before heading to your warm, cosy cottage in Sólheimar area, where you will stay the night. An ideal ending of the day is to soak in the in warm hot tub at your cottage where you might even be able to spot the Northern Lights. Driving distance approx. 150 km.
Highlights: Þingvellir National Park, Kerið volcanic crater and Northern Lights.
Day 3: Gullfoss waterfall & the Great Geysir
Head north to the geothermal area of Haukadalur to witness the Great Geysir—the original “Geyser” hot
spring—or its ever-reliable counterpart, Strokkur erupts roughly every 8 minutes, so an eruption is guaranteed. There will be plenty of time to explore the bubbling mud pots, geysers and other geological phenomena around the Great Geysir before visiting the stunning two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall. The great white glacial cascade drops 32 meters into a 70-metre deep canyon; Gullfoss is generally considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island and has been called “Iceland’s star attraction” by many. Today, you will have the opportunity to go snowmobiling on Langjökull glacier or even quad-biking. Driving distance approx. 100 km.
Highlights: Geysir area, Gullfoss and Langjökull glacier.
Day 4: Southern Comfort
Take it easy and enjoy the pristine nature and tranquillity that rural south Iceland has to offer. There are several interesting hiking trails close to the cottage. Visit
to Stokkseyri, where you will find a “Þuríðarbúð” – turf-huts in which fishermen lived, and a local swimming-pool where you can enjoy local hospitality and be served refreshments in the hot tubs! Experiencing a gourmet meal at the local, fantastic seafood restaurant, is ideal in the afternoon. The charming, tiny village of Eyrarbakki is also worth a visit with its large number of preserved houses from 1890-1920 and a walk on the black beach by the village is highly recommended. Activities such as Quad-Biking can easily be arranged for the more adventurous. Driving distance approx. 100 km.
Highlights: Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki.
Day 5: The South Coast Sensation
Visit the graceful Seljalandsfoss, experience walking behind the flowing water and feel the light drizzle. Continue to the 60 metre free-falling Skógafoss waterfalls in Skógar, where you will also find a folk museum with many interesting artefacts on
display. Experience the stunning black volcanic sand beach south of Vík and the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations. At Mýrdalsjökull, you will have the opportunity to experience snowmobiling, dog-sledding and a guided glacial hike (optional). Head back to your cosy cottage, where you will stay the night. Driving distance approx. 150 km.
Highlights: Kerið, Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, Skógar Museum, Mýrdalsjökull, Vík and Reynisfjara.
Day 6: Blue Lagoon
Head back via the Hveragerði “greenhouse community”. The town has a number of geothermally heated greenhouses and here you can see how Icelanders grow their fruit and vegetables. Continue via the volcanic wonderland of Reykjanes Peninsula, stopping a
t the Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater spa, set in a magical black lava field. It is rich in silica and blue-green algae, which gives the lagoon its reputed healing powers. Relaxing in-water massages are available but guests can also unwind in the saunas and steam baths or get a natural massage under the Blue Lagoon waterfall. Head back to Reykjavik where you will spend the night. Driving distance approx. 230 km.
Highlights: Hveragerði, Reykjavik, Blue Lagoon.
Day 7: Departure
