The drive takes you to the voluminous Deildartunguhver hot spring, the magnificent Jökulsárgljúfur National Park, Lake Mývatn, Dettifoss Waterfall (sometimes referred to as ‘Europe’s Niagara’) and more. This package includes accommodation in Reykjavík, Varmahlíð, Lake Mývatn and Akureyri.
Day 1: Arrival/Reykjavík
Upon arrival, you will be met by your private chauffeur, who will transfer you from Keflavík Airport to your hotel in Reykjavík. Check into your hotel and relax after the journey. The rest of the day is open to explore Reykjavik, visit museums, landmarks and such, and ideal to unwind at one of the cozy thermal baths & spas. Overnight in Reykjavík city centre.

Day 2: West Iceland
Climb into your rental car and explore the west of Iceland. Sights include the
Icelandic Settlement Centre at the village of Borgarnes and and the largest hot spring in Europe, Deildartunguhver. Continue up to the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfalls, where the clean spring water descentes from the lava-field to the river and the nearby Barnafoss waterfalls. You can visit the medieval research institution Sorrastofa at Reykholt and the troll women Drifa at Fossatún overlooking a waterfall. Stay in northwest Iceland. Driving distance approx. 280km.
Highlights: Borgarnes, Deildartunguhver, Hraunfossar waterfalls, Barnafossar waterfalls, Reykholt, Fossatún, Húsafell and Grábrók.
Day 3: Akureyri and Mývatn Nature Baths
Drive to Akureyri, the friendly “capital of the north”. Drive to Siglufjörður where you
can visit the Herring Era Museum and the Folk Music Center. Continue through the tunnel of Héðinsfjörður and on to Dalvík where you can go on a horseback ride, sea angling or continue on to Áskógssandur where you can visit an Icelandic bewery or take a short ferry ride to the tiny island of Hrísey. Head to Akureyri and explore the charming town, museums and surroundings or even take a flight to the Arctic Circle on the tiny island of Grímsey. Visit the gracious waterfalls of Goðafoss on your way to Lake Mývatn. Taking a dip and relaxing in the healing waters of “Mývatn Nature Baths” and experience bathing in a pool of geothermal water drawn from depths of up to 2,500 meters is the perfect way to end the day. Stay in Lake Mývatn area. Driving distance approx. 350km.
Highlights: Vatnsdalshólar, Glaumbær Folk Museum, Siglufjörður, Herring museum, Dalvík, Hrísey, Grímsey, Akureyri, Goðafoss, Lake Mývatn and Mývatn Nature Baths.
Optional activities: Horse-riding, white-water rafting, ferry to Hrísey island and
flight to Grímsey.
Day 4: Jökulsárgljúfur Canyon
Experience some of the natural phenomena of Vatnajökull National Park, including the impressive and rugged canyon of Jökulsárgljúfur, the horse-shaped gorge of Ásbyrgi and the most powerful waterfall in Europe, the deafening Dettifoss. To crown the day, you can also enjoy an optional whale watching tour from Húsavík, “the whale watching capital of Europe”. Stay in Lake Mývatn area. Driving distance approx. 250km.
Highlights: Jökulsárgljúfur, Ásbyrgi, Dettifoss and Húsavík.
Optional activities: whale-watching and sightseeing flight.
Day 5: Lake Mývatn – Akureyri
Explore the amazingly varied surroundings of Lake Mývatn, including the boiling mud-pots at Námafjall, the tephra crater Hverfell, Leirhnjúkur by the Krafla Volcano and the eerie lava formations of Dimmuborgir where you can be on the look-out for the Hidden People! Continue back to Varmahlíð area where you will spend the night. Stay in Varmahlíð area. Driving distance approx. 150km.
Highlights: Námafjall, Hverfell, Leirhnjúkur, Krafla Volcano, Dimmuborgir, Víðimýri Church, Safnasafnið „The Icelandic Folk Art Museum, Glaumbær folk museum and Varmahlíð.
Optional activities: Horse-riding and white-water rafting.

Day 6: The Highland Interior, Gullfoss and Geysir
Take the Kjölur interior road to Hveravellir, a high-temperature geothermal area. There where you can find interesting hot springs and stunning landscapes off the beaten track and even take a dip in the hot springs. Continue south between two glaciers, Langjökull and Hofsjökull to some of the best known natural phenomena in Iceland; the great Geysir and Gullfoss , the queen of Iceland’s waterfalls. The last stop is the unique Þingvellir National Park; listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List and a site of immense beauty and history. Stay in Reykjavík city-centre.
Note: The interior road Kjölur is closed during winters until the first week of June and the road is accessible for 4x4 vehicles only. Driving distance approx. 350km.
Highlights: Hveravellir, Langjökull, Hofsjökull, Geysir, Gulloss and Þingvellir national park.
Optional activities: ATV quad biking, horse backriding and snorkeling.
Day 7: Departure
Transfer to Keflavík airport with FlyBus. If your flight is in the afternoon, you can stop at the Blue Lagoon and even take a little tour of the Reykjanes peninsula (not included).
