Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome to Reykjavík
Arrival in Keflavík where your rental car awaits you for a drive through the lava fields to your city centre hotel in Reykjavík. After settling into the hotel, we recommend exploring the charming old city centre by foot and visiting one of Reykjavík’s excellent restaurants for a gourmet dinner. Driving distance approx. 40km / 25 mi.
Highlights: Reykjanes, Reykjavik.
Day 2: Golden Circle
Take a leisurely drive to Þingvellir National Park, the waterfall Gullfoss and the Geysir geothermal area. You can even visit the extinct volcanic crater-turned-lake Kerið and the hot-spring village of Hveragerði charming seaside village Stokkseyri where you can dine a gourmet seafood/lobster dinner at one of the seafood restaurants before heading back to Reykjavík. Driving distance approx. 260 km / 162 mi.
Highlights: Þingvellir, Gullfoss, Geysir and Kerið.
Day 3: Explore Reykjavík
Today is a free day. Go on an optional excursion or simply enjoy the city. Downtown Reykjavík offers a plethora of spas and swimming-pools, shops, museums and galleries, excellent restaurants, cafés, bars and clubs, for those who want to experience the renowned Reykjavík nightlife. Today would be ideal to try out the Icelandic horse or go whale-watching when in season.
Day 4: Blue Lagoon and Reykjanes and Departure
Drive to the Reykjanes Peninsula, and visit lake Kleifarvatn and the colourful Seltún (Krýsuvík) with its boiling mud-pots. Head on to the Blue Lagoon Spa and take a refreshing dip in the healing waters, and even enjoy a massage before heading to Keflavik Airport where you drop the car off and board your afternoon flight. Driving distance approx. 90 km / 56 mi.
Highlights: Reykjanes, Kleifarvatn, Seltún and Blue Lagoon.
