Introduction

This package is perfect for a short family-getaway to visit Santa’s World by the enchanting Lake Mývatn in northern Iceland. The Icelandic Santas, or Yule Lads, are actually 13 brothers, sons of mountain-dwelling trolls originated from the Icelandic folklore. They are You will have the chance to visit these cheeky, funny fellows at their home in “Dimmuborgir” lava field. Visiting the Yule Lads in their natural winter surroundings by tranquil Lake Mývatn and taking in some of the winter activities is truly an unforgettable experience for the whole family.

Itinerary

Day 1: A Day in Reykjavík
On arrival at Keflavík Airport, you’ll be met by your private chauffeur and transferred to Reykjavik. Check into your hotel and relax after the journey. The rest of the day is open to explore Reykjavik, visit museums, landmarks and such, and ideal to unwind at one of the cozy thermal baths & spas. Taking a stroll in the city centre is ideal; go to the pond to watch the birds and visit the Viking wax museum at the Pearl, where you can also enjoy a great view of the city. Stay in a comfort hotel in the heart of the city.

Day 2: Santa and Winter World
Take a 45-minute flight from Reykjavik Local Airport to Akureyri, “the capital of the north”, where you will be welcomed by your friendly driver-guide. Visit the charming Goðafoss waterfall on your way to Lake Mývatn where you check-in at your hotel.  The tour continues to Dimmuborgir where you will visit the Icelandic Santas “Yule lads” few/some of them will be happy to see you and welcome you to their cave. Then the tour continues to see the highlights of the mesmerizing Lake Mývarn surroundings. You’ll visit sizzling mud pools at Námafjall, the pseudo-craters at Skútustaðir and the Krafla Volcano to name a few. Taking a dip and relaxing in the healing waters of “Mývatn Nature Baths” is the perfect way to end the day, before enjoying great food and settling in at your cozy hotel room. In the evening, you might wish to have an evening-walk by the lake as you enjoy an evening viewing of the Northern Lights.

Day 3: Back to Reykjavik
Today you’ll be taken to the village of Akureyri for a sightseeing tour in the old town and you can even visit the Christmas House. Take an early afternoon flight back to the city of Reykjavik.

Day 4: Day at leisure
Today is at your leisure where you will have a chance to explore the city and near-surroundings at your own pace. It is possible to do some shopping, take a horse-riding tour, or simply relax at the Blue Lagoon or at one of the thermal pools in the city. Then, you can take an optional tour to explore the world famous Golden Circle. In the evening, you might be interested in the comedy-show Let‘s talk Christmas where the troll Grýla, the mother of the Yule Lads tells all about Icelandic holiday traditions. Be sure to treat yourself to a wonderful Christmas buffet at one of the numerous restaurants in the city.

Day 5: Departure
Much too soon you leave the beautiful winter and crisp air of Iceland behind as your family vacation comes to an end.

The Yule Lads are at Dimmuborgir daily from 3rd of Dec to 23rd of December, from 13:00-15:00.
Please note that the Northern Lights are natural phenomena and can only be seen on a clear night.
