Experience breathtaking winter scenery and northern lights with local guides that are experts in East Iceland´s local traditions, culture and cuisine. You will stay at carefully-selected boutique accommodation in Seyðisfjörður and Egilsstaðir, and embark on exciting excursions such as a snowshoe hike, super jeep tour, northern lights exploration and more. Included in the tour is also a visit to the popular Golden Circle and a soak in the warm geothermal waters of the Blue Lagoon.

  • Day 1: Welcome to Iceland & Explore the Capital

    On arrival to Keflavik International Airport, you will be greeted by a driver who will take you to your accommodation in Reykjavík. After settling in, the rest of the day is free for you to explore the vibrant city centre and its many museums, restaurants and bars. If you're interested in checking out Icelandic design or experiencing the city's thriving coffee culture, visit the main street, Laugavegur, to enjoy its various shops and cosy cafes.

    In the evening, consider an excursion (optional activity) to hunt for the majestic northern lights* 

    Spend the night in Reykjavík.

    * Please note that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. The season for northern lights is from the middle of September to the middle of April.

  • Day 2: The Famous Golden Circle

    Visit some of Iceland’s most famous sights today on a guided bus tour of the classic Golden Circle route. The tour starts with a visit to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can walk along a path in the rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. The next stop is at the thundering Gullfoss, a two-tiered waterfall, perhaps the most famous in an island of spectacular waterfalls. The final stop is to the Haukadalur geothermal area, home of Geysir—the original “geyser”—and the more active Strokkur, which spouts water every few minutes.

    The duration of the tour is 7-8 hours and includes pick-up and return to your hotel.

    Spend the night in Reykjavík.

  • Day 3: Northern Lights in the East Fjords

    Spend the first part of your day exploring Reykjavík at your leisure or join an optional activity of your choice from the city.

    Head to Reykjavik Domestic Airport (approx. 10-minute taxi transfer — not included) for your 1-hour flight to East Iceland, departing at 18:00. You will be welcomed at the Egilsstaðir airport by your driver guide and driven along a scenic mountain road to the picturesque village of Seyðisfjörður. Along the way, your guide will discuss the programme for the days ahead along with practical details about your visit to the east. After settling in at your hotel, you will experience a taste of local fresh fish caught from the fjord. 

    At 22:00, you will join a northern lights tour* where your guide will find the best location for viewing the magical Aurora Borealis. If the weather conditions and forecast are not favourable, your guide will meet you the following night for a northern lights hunt.

  • Day 4: Enjoy a Tranquil Wonderland in Seyðisfjörður – Hiking & Work Shop

    Begin your day with breakfast before embarking on a two-hour workshop with your group at the Technical Museum of East Iceland. Here, you will have a hands on experience with the museum's printing equipment and get to see their collection of printing clichés from different periods over the last century. You will also have the opportunity to print and bind your own small set of postcards and a memory book, the perfect handmade, local souvenir from Seyðisfjörður. 

    After the workshop, you will enjoy a delicious lunch at the beautiful Hotel Aldan in Seyðisfjörður before gearing up for a hiking tour with snow shoes (depending on weather conidtions) to the Vestdalur Valley, a nature reserve. This hike will take you off the beaten track, where you will experience beautiful waterfalls, magnificent rock formations, ice age glacier landforms and visit the spectacular elf city. This is a part of Iceland few travellers get to see. 

    End the evening with a local dinner and great company. 

    Spend another night at Hótel Aldan.

  • Day 5: Action & Nature in the Vast East

    Today you will say goodbye to beautiful Seyðisfjörður. After breakfast, your guide will drive you back across the winding road of the scenic mountain pass to Egilsstaðir. You might get the opportunity to take a few final pictures of the beautiful wintry scenery along the sweeping fjord.

    The next stop will be at Lagarfljót lake, the home of the mythical beast Lagarfljótsormurinn, Iceland's version of the Loch Ness Monster. The day's 7-hour tour will include a visit Hallormsstaður, the largest forested area in Iceland, where you will have a thrilling ride on an ATV quad bike throughout the forest, as well as a short guided walk. Afterwards, you will continue to the Wilderness Centre where you will be treated to a visually stunning exhibition on life in and near the highlands. Lunch at the Wilderness Centre is included. 

    The tour continues through wondrous winter scenery and makes a stop at Snæfellsstofa, the visitor centre for Vatnajökull National Park, before driving towards Skriðuklaustur, a unique and beautiful house with a lot of history. In the late afternoon, you will return to Egilsstaðir for check-in at your hotel and free time to spend at your leisure. In the evening, you will enjoy a delicious meal at your hotel.

    In the evening, relax and enjoy the soothing spa at the Lake Hotel.

    Spend the night at Lake Hotel Egilsstaðir - Gistihúsið.

  • Day 6: Return to Reykjavik

    Today you will head back to the capital city after spending the morning in Egilsstaðir. At noon you will be picked up at your hotel and transported to Egilsstaðir Airport for your return flight to Reykjavík. Back in Reykjavik, you can take a taxi from the domestic airport to your hotel (not included in the tour price), and you can enjoy the rest of the afternoon and evening at your leisure. 

    There are many places to discover in the city centre, including Hallgrímskirkja, Tjörnin, city hall, as well as the Harpa Concert Hall and more. You can also visit numerous cafes and shops along Laugavegur or pop into the city's many interesting museums and galleries.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

  • Day 7: Relaxing Blue Lagoon & Departure from Iceland

    No trip to Iceland is complete without a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa renowned for its milky blue, mineral-rich water and unique lava surroundings. Soaking in the lagoon with a silica mud face mask and a cocktail in hand is a memorable and soothing ending to your stay in Iceland and a fantastic way to relax before your flight. You can choose to enjoy the sauna, steam room, mini-waterfall, as well as the café and gift shop inside the facilities. You will be picked up at your hotel for the tour, and after your visit to the Blue Lagoon, you will take a short bus ride to Keflavik International Airport for your journey home.

    Included Meal: Breakfast at the hotel 

    Note: If your flight is in the morning, we will change your travel itinerary accordingly.

    In-water massages are available at the Blue Lagoon, but we recommend booking these well in advance.

Prices displayed in other currencies are indicative only and based on the daily exchange rate as issued by the Central bank of Iceland.
