  • Day 1: Welcome to the North

On arrival at Keflavik Airport, your private driver will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Reykjavik. After settling in, the rest of the day is free for you to explore the vibrant city centre and its many museums, restaurants and bars for all tastes. If you're interested in checking out Icelandic design or experiencing the city's thriving coffee culture, head to the main street, Laugavegur, to enjoy its various shops and cosy cafes.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

  • Day 2: Crossing the Arctic Circle

Depart from Reykjavik Domestic Airport for a 3,5 hour flight to the charming Arctic village of Ilulissat, beautifully situated at the mouth of the 56 kilometre-long Ilulissat Icefjord. On arrival, you will be transferred to your accommodation for the next three nights.

During the following days, you will get a chance to explore Ilulissat, which is known for the giant icebergs surrounding this Arctic town. It‘s the perfect destination to relax, enjoy nature and experience true Arctic life. You will find delicious local cuisine, museums, hiking trails and of course, the beautiful Greenlandic Huskies. We recommend exploring the town on your own or booking a tour with a knowledgeable guide who will offer insight into the history of the village. Enjoy exploring, and for tonight we recommend heading out to search for the northern lights. During the dark winter nights in the north when the sky is clear you can see the beautiful northern lights dancing and flickering over Ilulissat (if conditions are favourable*). We recommend booking a guided northern lights tour.

*Please keep in mind that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 3: Experience Unique Surroundings and Breathtaking Nature

Today we recommend that you select one of the many activities that our hand-picked suppliers offer. For example, you can take a tour to get to know some Greenlandic settlements just a short boat ride away. Another option is to hike to the Icefjord, situated close to the town of Ilulissat. The short hike to the fjord allows you time to enjoy the incredible landscape and beautiful icebergs floating in the fjord. This hike is also available as a guided tour from one of our local suppliers.

Note: We recommend booking optional activities in advance through your travel consultant at Nordic Visitor, though you may also book activities at your hotel in Ilulissat during your stay.

  • Day 4: Winter Adventures in Ilulissat

You can create your own Arctic adventure! You can choose from a number of fascinating activities, such as a boat ride through a maze of icebergs, a helicopter ride over the ice cap, a dog-sledding safari, a cultural demonstration and village walk or a guided snowmobile tour.

  • Day 5: Return to the Land of Ice and Fire

In the early part of the day, you will have some time to relax or do some last-minute souvenir shopping. Then you will be transferred to the Illulissat Airport for your flight to Iceland.

Spend the next three nights in Reykjavik.

  • Day 6: Golden Circle & Glacier Adventure

Today’s guided super-jeep safari takes you to the Golden Circle, a route containing some of the country’s most famous attractions. The first stop is Þingvellir National Park, the site of Iceland’s ancient assembly grounds and the continental rift valley. Next you’ll see Geysir, the original geyser, as well as its more active neighbour Strokkur at the Haukadalur geothermal area. Then, following visits to the Gullfoss waterfall and the Kerið implosion crater, the last stop of this excursion is the Langjökull glacier, where you will experience a thrilling snowmobile tour.

On return to Reykjavik, enjoy the rest of the evening as you wish, perhaps with dinner at one of the city's gourmet restaurants.

  • Day 7: Blue Lagoon & Northern Lights

Today you will head to the Blue Lagoon, renowned for its healing powers. You can enjoy your time at the blue lagoon and take advantage of the many things the spa has to offer such as massages (not included) and the in-pool bar. Enjoy regenerating after an adventours days in Iceland and Greenland and refresh your skin with a mud mask. Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure in the city.

This evening you will head out with an experienced guide to hunt for the northern lights. The Northern Lights—the Aurora Borealis—are a spectacular natural phenomena, usually only visible over the polar regions of the Earth.

*Please keep in mind that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Travel Insurance Recommended
Winter weather in Greenland is unpredictable and poor weather conditions can result in serious air travel delays, which may incur additional expenses. We and our travel partners in Greenland do everything in our power to minimize inconveniences for our clients, however any such weather-related costs must be borne by individual travellers. Therefore we strongly recommend buying travel insurance.
  • The winter climate in Greenland can be quite unpredictable with average temperatures ranging from -3 to -20° Celsius. Due to Arctic conditions and sudden weather changes, we recommend bringing warm, weatherproof outerwear with plenty of thermal layers and insulated walking boots. It is also nice to bring sunglasses to reduce the glare from the sun’s reflection on the snow.
  • The currency in Greenland is Danish Krona (DKK). We recommend bringing some Danish currency or a debit card (bank card) with a 4-digit PIN number for cash withdrawals at ATM machines.
  • See our Greenland Travel Guide for more information about weather conditions, what to pack, currency and other practical information about travelling in Greenland. We also have helpful tips for travelling in Iceland at our Iceland Travel Guide.
  • Additional warm outerwear and safety gear is provided for any included or optional outdoor activities in Iceland and Greenland.
  • The itinerary can change without notice due to weather conditions. All activities included in this package are dependent on weather conditions and minimum participant requirements. In the rare event that an activity is cancelled for these reasons, you will be refunded for that activity.
  • Please note that the northern lights (aurora borealis) are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Currency rate
All bookings are charged in Icelandic Króna (ISK), the official currency of Iceland. Prices displayed in other currencies are indicative only and based on the daily exchange rate as issued by the Central bank of Iceland.
