  • Day 1: The Blue Lagoon & the Northern Lights

Upon arrival at Keflavik International Airport your privately-guided adventure begins. For the next four days, you will see some of the best highlights of Iceland, but you must be prepared for long travelling days on a short stopover. There is a lot to see and do!

Start the day with a visit to the relaxing and unique geothermal spa, the Blue Lagoon. This is the most visited attraction in Iceland, and is therefore a must-see when you visit. Bathing in the soothing water amid natural lava surroundings is a memorable experience. A silica mud mask is included in the entrance fee, along with an algae mask, and a drink of your choice.

After bathing and enjoying the lagoon, you will tour the Reykjanes peninsula before heading to your accommodation along the south coast for the day.  Sights include the bubbling mud pots at Seltún Hot Spring Area and lake Kleifarvatn.

Later in the evening, if weather conditions allow, your guide will take you on a tour in search of the magnificent northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis.*

Spend the night in the Golden Circle area.

    * Please note that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Included activities: Comfort Experience Entrance at the Blue Lagoon (1,5-2 hour stop)

  • Day 2: The Classic Golden Circle & Scenic South Coast

Explore Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its natural beauty, unique geology and historical significance. The park, along with Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal region make up what’s known as the popular “Golden Circle” route.

During the day, your guide will take you to visit three uniquely different waterfalls – Gullfoss, Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss – which are even more spectacular with winter ice crystals adorning the cliff sides. You’ll also get to explore the Geysir area, where you can watch Strokkur (The Churn) geyser blast boiling water up to 30 metres in the air every 8-10 minutes. End the day in the southeastern part of the country where you will be spending the night.

Spend the night in Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

  • Day 3: THE MAGICAL GLACIER LAGOON & VATNAJÖKULL NATIONAL PARK

Today you’ll experience some of the icy wonders that truly give Iceland its name. Start the day driving along the south coast to the beautiful Skaftafell area of Vatnajökull National Park, Iceland’s largest protected landmass named for Europe’s largest glacier.

The day’s ultimate highlight is a stop at the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, where icebergs slowly drift out to sea on a mirror-like lake. This is one of Iceland’s best known and most photographed locations.

We end the day with a return drive along the south coast to your accommodation. If we are lucky we might see the northern lights on our way back to the accommodation tonight, depending of course on weather conditions and solar activity.*

Spend the night in Vík area.

  • Day 4: BLACK SAND BEACHES & RETURN TO KEFLAVIK INTL. AIRPORT

Today you will be travelling back along the south coast to Keflavik International Airport in time for your flight back home. If time allows you will visit the black sand beach near the town of Vík, a fabulous photo spot with views of the Dyrhólaey cape and the Reynisdrangar pillars. The guide will make their way to Keflavik Airport in time for your afternoon check-in. If time allows, your guide will drive through Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, on your way to the airport.

*Please note that the service of the tour guide concludes in the afternoon. For later departures, please contact us as we can modify the activities of this day for evening departure flights (not included).

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Designed an incredible vacation

When we decided to visit Iceland, we wanted help designing our itinerary and found Guðrún with Nordic Visitor. Via email, Guðrún asked a series of questions which let her get to know us and get an understanding of what we wanted to do, see and travel. Guðrún came back with a great itinerary and with a little back and forth to fine tuning we were ready to go.

Never actually speaking with Guðrún and knowing very little about Iceland, we were not sure how the trip and accommodations would work out. But work out it did and in spades! We've been thrilled with our vacation and sad to leave today. Guðrún planned a spectacular itinerary to Icelands highlights yet left us plenty of time to explore on our own and to go off the beaten path which we did by the hour.

Can't give Guðrún and Nordic Visitors a high enough rating and positive review.

Details: Visit April 2015. South coast of Iceland from Reykjavik through the Golden Circle to the Glacier lagoon. Rented 4x4 Nissan Pathfinder which was worth its weight in gold and it allowed us to go off onto the gravel and mud roads to see the hard to get to sights plus huge advantage when driving in the snow. Booked comfort accommodations.

Gear: You will get soaking wet every day. Bring rain AND windproof pants. Gortex jacket with hood. Wool cap or buy as a souvenir on day one which is what we did. Lots of layers including long johns and under armour. Good, water proof hiking boots with wool socks. Spare pair of shoes to change into. Also glad we had both light gloves and ski gloves. We travelled light and did laundry every 3 days at our assorted hotels.

Effortless

We used Nordic Visitor to book our Iceland new year trip fairly last minute. Can't fault them - we had a fantastic experience and the whole process was so straightforward and felt effortless. Before travelling we were in regular contact with our agent (Hafdis) who was quick to respond on working days and answered all our questions. We were free to book extra activities as and when we found them (which we did a few times!) rather than booking them all ahead of time. They were easy to contact whilst in Iceland as they gave us a local mobile phone with credit. We got upgraded rooms in half the (fantastic) hotels we stayed in and our car was upgraded too. Thanks for your help - our trip was great!

Other Details
  • Best months to experience the Northern Lights are October through April every year, with peak visibility from December through February. Please note, as the Northern Lights are natural phenomena, we cannot guarantee sightings even if the tour is operated.
  • Although the winter climate in Iceland is generally mild compared to other northern European countries, the temperature can drop below freezing at times. Please bring windproof and waterproof outerwear and plenty of warm layers.
  • Please note that in Iceland, the weather is a big part of the adventure. With that in mind, please note that the itinerary may need to be adjusted by the guide according to weather or road conditions.
Please be advised that daylight is limited in Iceland during the winter months, with 4-5 hours of daylight from December to January. However, fresh snowfall often gives the appearance of more light, and it is common that houses, streets and businesses are lit up with Christmas lights, so don't fear that you will be travelling in complete darkness.

For the Blue Lagoon:
The minimum age requirement for children at the Blue Lagoon is 2 years old. It is mandatory for children ages 3- to 8 years old to wear inflatable armbands in the lagoon. These are provided free of charge. Please note that only two children under the age of 10 can be admitted into the lagoon per guardian.

Currency rate
All bookings are charged in Icelandic Króna (ISK), the official currency of Iceland. Prices displayed in other currencies are indicative only and based on the daily exchange rate as issued by the Central bank of Iceland. Therefore, conversions from ISK to other currencies will fluctuate from day to day.
