At Keflavík Airport you will be met by a driver who will drive you to Reykjavík. Spend the rest of the day exploring the city centre on your own, or ask us about guided tours if you have a specific interest in mind.

If you're keen on checking out Icelandic design or experiencing the city's thriving coffee culture, head to the main street, Laugavegur, to enjoy its various shops and cosy cafes. Into Nordic history or art? Stop into one of the many small museums or art galleries scattered around the city. And in the evening, there are numerous restaurants in the city centre with a variety of cuisines to satisfy any taste buds, including Iceland’s specialties — locally-sourced grilled lamb and fresh seafood. Have any particular foods you wish to try? We are happy to make recommendations.

    Spend the night in Reykjavík.

Today your personal guide will pick you up for your journey into the Icelandic countryside, starting with a drive north and west to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Often nicknamed “Iceland in Miniature”, this area contains a stunning array of geological features formed over millennia by the forces of wind, waves, ice and volcanoes. It feels a bit more off the beaten path, characterized by its diverse birdlife, dramatic cliffs, rocky beaches, rugged peaks, crunchy lava formations and charming fishing villages.

Covering the western tip is the Snæfellsjökull National Park, so named for the peninsula’s most prominent landmark: the glacier-capped 1446 m high Snæfellsjökull volcano. Visible from the capital area on a clear day, this mountain was the fictional setting for Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth and is considered by some to be one of the earth’s major ‘energy centres’.

Spend the night in West Iceland.

Today’s journey starts at Borgarfjörður with a visit to the picturesque waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, where glacial water trickles over lava. After a stop to the largest hot spring in Europe, Deildartunguhver, your guide will then drive along a rugged highland road leading to the desolate and hauntingly beautiful Kaldidalur valley and Langjökull glacier, the second largest in Iceland. At Langjökull, you’ll have the opportunity to venture “Into the Glacier” via a fascinating man-made tunnel deep into the ice (requires entrance fee, not included).

Later, your guide will take you to southwestern Iceland to explore Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its natural beauty, unique geology and historical significance. Here you can walk on a pathway in a tectonic rift near the site where Iceland’s early settlers established the first parliament over a thousand years ago. This park, along with the Gullfoss waterfall and Geysir hot springs (visited on Day 4), make up what’s known as the popular “Golden Circle” route.

Spend the night in the Golden Circle area.

You will need to get an early start this morning to take in all the amazing sights! On today’s drive are some of the best-known natural wonders in southwest Iceland, including the three spectacular waterfalls of Gullfoss, Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss – each with a pathway leading you alongside (or even behind!) the misty, roaring cascade. Your guide will also take you to see Geysir—the original geyser—and its more active neighbour Strokkur.

And no trip to South Iceland is complete without a visit to the black volcanic beach near the town of Vík, where you will have a great view of the stunning Dyrhólaey cape and the Reynisdrangar basalt sea stacks.

Spend the night in South Iceland.

What better way to end a tour in Iceland than with a day of geothermal wonders? On your way towards the airport, your guide will take you to Lake Kleifarvatn and the moon-like Krýsuvík area, where you can walk among the hot springs and bubbling mud pots.

The grand finale is the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa where you will have a couple hours to bathe in the mineral-rich, soothing waters surrounded by black lava formations. This is a wonderful last taste of Iceland, and it ensures that you are fully relaxed before your afternoon check-in Keflavik International Airport.

*Please note that the service of the tour guide concludes in the afternoon. We can modify the activities of this day accordingly for evening departure flights.

Nordic Visitor will help you plan a trip of a lifetime

Nordic Visitor put together the exact trip I hoped to take. I explained what I was looking for, what I wanted to see and do, and the general area I wanted to explore, and they came up with an itinerary that exceeded my expectations. They made everything seamless too. Once we were in Iceland, we didn't have to worry about a thing - it was all taken care of by Nordic Visitor. We stayed in excellent hotels and visited attractions we may have otherwise missed had they not suggested them. All of my correspondence with them was timely, professional and friendly. We made a few last minute changes (we upgraded our rental car, etc.), and they handled it without issue. I would definitely use them again - for Iceland or any other of the destinations they cover.
I had been to Iceland before and used a different company, and everything with that other company was much more difficult.

The South Coast & Western Peninsulas - Private Tour, July 2008

It was the best holiday I ever had

The service provided and information received before the tour was excellent. The standard of accommodation was excellent, for me the best experience was sleeping in the national park, however every single hotel was wonderful. We had the best guide-driver we could dream of. For us he was more than a guide. I have a deep respect and admiration for Asgeir who helped us to discover, understand and fall in love with this beautiful country. He adapted himself so kindly to our needs and tantrums! My daughter keeps talking about him. I do not exaggerate when I say he is her hero. Now everyone knows him in France and in England. I was not expecting such high quality standard of meals. My favorite was a meal at the last restaurant where every single dish was a delight (Hotel Ranga). It was definitively the best restaurant along with the sea food bar in Reykjavik. Ask Thora for the name. It was also very nice to meet her in Reykjavik. The weather has been with us as well. Every landscape and natural feature have been a festival of emotions for us. Icelandic people are welcoming, and friendly. They love and respect the countryside and people. I am very happy that my daughter (9) had the chance to visit and enjoy such a magical country where elves, nature and modernity live together in harmony. I did enjoy this tour deeply. It was the best holiday I never had.
