  • Day 2: The Golden Circle & SECRET LAGOON

Collect your rental car in the morning and begin your journey on the classic “Golden Circle” route, home to some of Iceland’s most popular attractions. Start with a visit to the fascinating Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, you can walk on a path in the rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Next on the route is the Haukadalur geothermal area, where you can see Geysir—the original “geyser”—and its more active neighbour, Strokkur, which spouts water every few minutes. End the circle with visits to the majestic Gullfoss waterfall and the old implosion crater of Kerið. End the day with a soothing soak in a natural hot spring, the Secret Lagoon.

Spend the night in the Selfoss area.

Included activities: entrance to the Secret Lagoon

Driving distance approx. 250 km / 155 mi.

    Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights
  • Day 3: THE SOUTH COAST & ATV ADVENTURE

Start with a visit to the fairytale-like Seljalandsfoss waterfall—where you can walk right behind the misty cascade—and the equally impressive Skógafoss waterfall just a short drive down the road. Next up is a thrilling ATV (quad-bike) tour over the black lava sands to the famous US Navy aircraft wreck. After the adventure you will continue on towards Vík, take a rest stop at the black volcanic beach south of the village and admire the dramatic view of the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations. The last stop of the day is the stunning Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon.

Here you will also get to experience a guided glacier walk on the Svínafellsjökull glacier, part of the Vatnajökull glacier. Then head to the amazing Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where you will sail among the floating icebergs on a zodiac-boat tour.

Transportation to the glacier is included, allowing you to relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery where scenes from famous Hollywood movies have been filmed. With the lunar landscapes of Námaskarð Pass, the Skútustaðagígar volcanic pseudocraters, Mt. Krafla and the starkly beautiful Dimmuborgir lava formations, you may feel like you’ve just landed on the moon! Later in the afternoon you will join a mountain biking tour that ends with relaxing geothermal bathing at the Mývatn Nature Baths.

Here you can browse interesting little shops and museums or take a stroll through the world's most northerly botanical garden. Continuing westward, your drive takes you to Tröllaskagi, “the peninsula of the trolls”, an area with some of the country’s most beautiful mountains, cliffs and fjords. And for a glimpse into Iceland’s maritime history, pay a visit to Siglufjörður, a small picturesque fishing town.

Spend the night in the Skagafjörður area.

Then in the afternoon you will get your burst of adrenaline on a white-water rafting adventure through the scenic gorges of Vestari-Jökulsá (West Glacial River). To refresh your muscles after today’s activities, we recommend a soak in Grettislaug. Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Better than amazing!

Kristin was amazing. Better than amazing! She was so helpful throughout the process and answered all our questions in a timely manner. I don't have anything negative to say, she was truly spectacular. By far the best travel agent we have ever had. I don't know what we would have done without her!

Trip of our life

This is not the type of vacation we normally take - we have generally gone on Caribbean Cruises, but our son was reading a brochure about Iceland and had heard some of his classmates from school talk about Iceland and he thought he'd like to do this for a summer vacation.  Traveling on our own with a rental car and having all of the adventures/activities and lodging arrangements planned was the perfect way to go.  It was much less stressful on us and we could actually enjoy each day.  Nordic Visitor did a very good job in organizing our vacation - we got to see an example sampling of Iceland.  Thanks for helping us have a trip of our life!

Can’t wait to come back in winter!

Iceland is a beautiful country. This tour was a perfect way to share the beauty and the friendliness of the country.  It made it more of an adventure to self drive, go our own pace, choose our own sights, but all the while with the security of excellent support materials provided by Nordic Visitor. Some sites near Reykjavik were crowded with tour buses but around the rest of the tour, we could still be much less crowded and enjoyable, and even alone at many places. Can‘t wait to come back in Winter. I would like also to mention that Kristin put this whole trip together for us with only 5 weeks notice, well done!

Great job!

Nordic Visitor did a great job for us.  We were very pleased with our tour advisor's responsiveness and the thoughtfulness that she put into helping us plan our visit around Iceland.  We couldn't have enjoyed the vacation without your assistance!  Thank you very much.

Handled everything excellently

The snowmobiling on the glacier tour and the super jeep to Askja were outstanding. The guides were wonderful and the experience was other worldly. The river rafting tour was probably most exciting and fun tour we took and we would highly recommend. Hilmar was an excellent travel consultant. We made a change in our original plan for the start of the trip shortly before the trip and Hilmar handled everything excellently.

12 Days Around Iceland

Nordic Visitor took care of ALL of the details for us. The only thing we needed to arrange was our airfare to/from Reykjavik! Alexandra did all the rest. Nordic Visitor provides a car, maps, cell phone, and detailed itinerary for the drive-around vacations. Our hotels were arranged at each stop; each evening was a pleasant surprise. We stayed in city hotels, country cabins, historic building B&Bs, and newly constructed hotels. We had detailed maps to get where we needed to go, AND details about other places in case we wished to digress from our route to see more of this amazing country. We tacked on a few days at the end in Reykjavik, and had the chance to soak in the Blue Lagoon for a day, as well as see "How To Become Icelandic In 60 Minutes" at The HARPA (gorgeous national performing space on the harbor in Reykjavik). All in all, a marvelous 12 days! Thanks, Nordic Visitor, and Alexandra!
