  • Day 1: Welcome to Iceland

On arrival to Keflavik Airport, you will be greeted by a driver who will take you to your accommodation in Reykjavík. After settling in, the rest of the day is free for you to explore the vibrant city centre at your leisure. Downtown Reykjavik offers a variety of shops, cafes and museums for all tastes and ages, most of which are within easy walking distance of each other.

Spend the next two nights in Reykjavik.

    Highlights
  • Day 2: Swimming Pools & Viking Legends

Collect your rental car in the morning and set out to discover the fun family activities that Reykjavik has to offer. Start with a visit to Laugardalur, where you can spend the early part of the day at the Reykjavik Family Park & Zoo. Here you will also find beautiful botanical gardens and one of the best pools in Reykjavik, Laugardalslaug, including a large outdoor pool, various hot tubs, a steam bath and a twisting water slide that is sure to be a hit with the kids.

Other suggestions around Reykjavik include a visit to the Árbær open-air museum, a short ferry trip to Viðey Island or a relaxing walk along one of the city’s scenic seaside paths. Another good idea for the afternoon is a stop for ice cream at the café inside Perlan (“The Pearl), which offers panoramic 360-degree views over the capital.

    Highlights Highlights
  • Day 3: The Golden Circle & Furry Friends

Head into the countryside today, beginning with visits to some of the best-known natural phenomena in Iceland on the popular “Golden Circle” route. Start at Þingvellir National Park, where you can walk in the rift valley between the North American and Eurasion tectonic plates! Here you can also learn about the establishment of the first parliament in the world.

Continue next to the two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall, the Geysir geothermal area with its spouting hot springs and the Kerið implosion crater. At Geysir, we recommend a visit to the multimedia show, where your family can virtually experience such wonders as being in an ice cave and seeing the northern lights. Further along your drive, you can also visit the Slakki family petting zoo at Laugarás, where the kids can make friends with some friendly Icelandic farm animals (open during summer).

Spend the next three nights at a cottage/apartment in South Iceland.

Driving distance approx. 150 km / 93 mi.

Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 4: Trolls, Elves & Seaside Villages

Take it easy today and enjoy the natural tranquility that rural South Iceland has to offer. There are several interesting hiking trails located close to your accommodation along with horse-rentals in the area.

If your family is up for more driving then we recommend a trip to the charming seaside villages of Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri. Eyrarbakki has a number of well preserved houses from the turn of the 20th century and Stokkseyri is well known for its museum dedicated to trolls, elves and northern lights. An ideal end to this evening is a delicious dinner of lobster soup or lobster tails at the local seafood restaurant (non-seafood menu items are also available).

Driving distance approx 150 km / 93 mi.

    Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 5: Waterfalls, Wildlife & Beaches

Drive along the south coast towards Vík today. Start with a visit to the fairytale-like Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where a short path leads you behind the misty cascade—you might even wonder if you’ll find a pot of gold! Next, visit the Skógafoss waterfall and the nearby Skógar Folk Museum, where you can explore the turf farm outside or head inside to see artifacts from the old farming and fishing days. Further ahead, make a stop to the stunning black sand beach south of Vík and see the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations.

Before heading back to your accommodation you may also make an optional detour to the edge of the Sólheimajökull glacier tongue or to Seljavallalaug, a natural thermal pool uniquely located in a secluded valley.

Driving distance approx 300 km / 186 mi.

    Highlights Highlights Highlights
  • Day 6: Blue Lagoon & Volcanic Wonderland

Drive through the volcanic wonderland of Reykjanes Peninsula to the Blue Lagoon. Surrounded by unearthly lava formations, this geothermal lagoon and spa is famous for the radiant milky blue color of its warm mineral waters. Here you can also take advantage of the steam baths, saunas and on-site café. On your way back to Reykjavik, you have the option of taking the longer route around the peninsula to see the sights, such as lighthouses, bird cliffs, the hot springs at Seltún, the “Giantess in the Cave” in Keflavik and the Power Plant Earth exhibition (open in summer).

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

Driving distance approx. 331 km / 208 mi.

  • Day 7: Home Sweet Home

Today it‘s time to head back home. Your private driver will pick your family up at your accommodation and take you to Keflavík Airport in time for your departure check-in.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Dream holiday

We were very impressed with the service. Lots of information, and very well organised. The accomodation was excellent quality and the pick up from the airport and from our accomodation to car rental was exactly on time as described and very efficient. The ideas of places to visit / itinerary were very useful. We had a fantastic holiday and hope to visit again I would strongly recommend your services to my friends. You made a dream holiday come true. Thank you for listening to our requirements and tailoring the holiday for us.

Iceland holiday

Nordic Visitor was the only travel agency that really took the time to understand what I was looking for instead of merely sending me pre-fixed packages. Jelena was my travel adviser and she was very efficient and helpful. Can really recommend their work.

Iceland Wonderland

My grown daughters and I set up a 12 day South Island Tour with Kristin of Nordic Visitor. She was very accommodating. We added a couple of days and requested specific hotels. The trip was very successful. Our expectations were more than met. Kristin worked with us continuously during the planning and execution phases. She answered emails immediately. Her knowledge about places to see during our journey was amazing, even where to find remote Hot Pots. She and her staff helped make our trip very enjoyable.
