  • Day 1: Arrival in Iceland

On arrival at Keflavik International Airport, you will be met by a driver and transferred by car to your accommodation in Reykjavík. If you want to hit the greens right away, you have the option of playing a round of golf at Leiran Golfklúbbur in Suðurnesja—home to the challenging Bergvíkin hole—before heading to Reykjavik. Otherwise, the rest of the day if free for you to explore the Reykjavik city centre and enjoy dining out at one of its excellent restaurants.

    Spend the night in Reykjavík.

    Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 2: Lava Golf Challenge at Keilir

After collecting your rental car in the morning, head to the Keilir golf course, only a ten-minute drive from Reykjavik. Located right on the ocean and built into a lava field, this is one of Iceland’s most spectacular and unique courses. Here you can choose from an 18-hole championship course (par 71) or a 9-hole practice course and enjoy the beautiful clubhouse that offers views all the way across the bay to the Snaefellsjökull Glacier.

Afterwards, you can take in the sights of the Reykjavik area or take part in an optional activity, like a whale watching tour from Reykjavik harbour.

    Spend another night in Reykjavík.

Driving distance approx. 90 km / 56 mi.

    Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 3: Explore Reykjavík & Midnight Golf

We recommend using this day to explore Reykjavík so that later in the evening you can play “midnight golf”—a unique Icelandic experience. Thanks to Iceland’s location near the Arctic Circle, the sun doesn’t fully set at the peak of summer, a phenomenon we call “midnight sun”. (Note: latest tee times are usually 10 PM.) You will get a chance to play one of the best courses in the capital area: Golfkúbbur Oddur, Grafarholt, Korpan or Kópavogs/Garðabæjar. We will book your tee time at one of these courses based on availability and your preferences.

    Spend another night in Reykjavík.

    Highlights
  • Day 4: Wonders of the Golden Circle

Take in some of the best known attractions in southern Iceland today with a drive around the “Golden Circle” route. Sights along your journey include the UNESCO-listed Þingvellir National Park—a place of great historical and geological significance, the Haukadalur geothermal area—home of many hot springs and the original geyser, Geysir, and the two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall.

Spend the night in the Selfoss/Hekla area.

Driving distance approx. 250 km / 155 mi.

Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 5: Leisurely Morning & Afternoon Golf

Spend a relaxing morning in the area of Hvítá, a powerful glacial river that runs through the southern part of Iceland. If you’d like to experience the tranquil scenery like the early Viking settlers did, then you may wish to ride a purebred Icelandic horse with one of the guided riding tours available in the area. Then in the afternoon, you’ll enjoy a round of golf at the 18-hole (par 70) Kiðjaberg course. (We recommend renting a golf cart as this course is long.)

Spend another night in the Selfoss/Hekla area.

    Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 6: Golf at Hella & South Coast Attractions

Start the day at the 18-hole links golf course at Hella (par70) before setting out to explore the scenic south coast. On the way, you can explore beautiful natural attractions like the Seljalandsfoss waterfall—where you can walk behind the tumbling water, the 60 meter-high Skógafoss waterfall and the black volcanic beach near Vík for dramatic views of the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations.

If you’re into Icelandic history, we also suggest checking out the Old Norse literary exhibits at the Saga Centre in Hvolsvöllur and the old fishing and farming artefacts at the Skógar Folk Museum.

Spend the night in the Vík area.

Driving distance approx. 90 km / 56 mi.

    Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights
  • Day 7: Golfing on the Volcanic Islands

Today offers a unique experience to play “volcanic golf”. The course on the Westman Islands (Vestmannaeyjar) is considered one of the most spectacular in the golf world, where forces of nature can challenge even the most skilled player. Much of the ground in the town of Heimaey consists of lava that is still cooling from the eruption of 1973, which left many houses half-buried. Ferry passage is provided between Heimaey and the mainland.

Spend the night in the Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

Driving distance approx. 220 km / 137 mi.

    Highlights Highlights
  • Day 8: Skaftafell & Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

Drive east along the south coast today. Along at the beautiful Skaftafell area, part of Vatnajökull National Park, you have the option of hiking on a variety of scenic trails, including a short one (4 km round-trip) to the Svartifoss waterfall, a peculiar sight for its hexagonal basalt columns. Then, before heading to your accommodation, make a stop at the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, a fantastic place to try out your photography skills and enjoy an optional boat ride among the icebergs.

Spend the night in the Höfn area.

Driving distance approx. 210 km / 130 mi.

Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 9: Golf & Journey through East Fjords

Start the day by driving through the charming East Fjords towards your next destination. Enjoy the spectacular fjord scenery, natural tranquillity and charming fishing villages along your journey, with worthwhile stops on the way including Mt. Búlandstindur, the village of Seyðisfjörður, Petra's Mineral Collection in Stöðvarfjörður and the Lagarfljót River, said to be inhabited by a monster worm.

End the day the banks of Lagarfljót river where you will be playing a round on the challenging and adventurous 9hole Ekkjufell golf course (par 70).

Spend the night in the Egilsstaðir/Seyðisfjörður area.

Driving distance approx. 250 km / 155 mi.

    Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 10: The Moon-like Landscapes of Lake Mývatn

Today’s drive to Lake Mývatn in North Iceland is characterized by rugged tundra and sweeping landscapes. Upon reaching today’s destination, you can take your time to explore highlights such as the Krafla volcano, the curiously-coloured Námaskarð pass, the massive crater of Hverfell, the pseudo-craters at Skútustaðir and the lava maze of Dimmuborgir—a surreal area that has inspired much folklore over the centuries.

Spend the night in the Mývatn area.

Driving distance approx. 260 km / 161 mi.

Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 11: Whales, Waterfalls & Geothermal Bathing

This is another free day to explore the Lake Mývatn area. One suggestion is to start the day with an optional whale-watching trip from “the whale watching capital of Europe”, the charming village of Húsavík. We also recommend visiting Jökulsárgljúfur—part of Vatnajökull National Park, where you can see the horseshoe-shaped Ásbyrgi canyon and the most powerful waterfall in Europe, Dettifoss.

Before heading to your next overnight destination, why not get yourself in top shape for more golfing with a relaxing soak in the outdoor geothermal pool at the Mývatn Nature Baths.

Spend the night in the Akureyri area.

Driving distance approx. 90 km / 56 mi.

Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 12: World’s Most Northerly 18-hole Course in Akureyri

Start your day in the “Capital of Northern Iceland”, Akureyri, by playing a round on of the northernmost 18-hole course in the world. The Akureyri golf course is the annual location of the “Arctic Open”, an increasingly popular tournament that has attracted many top players from around the world. After golfing, you may wish to grab lunch at one of the cafes or restaurants in Akureyri’s charming city centre.

Later, make your way through the beautiful Skagafjördur farmlands to the Borgarfjörður area, where you will spend the night.

Driving distance approx. 320 km / 199 mi.

    Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 13: Golf at Hamar & Return to Reykjavík

Before heading back to the capital city today, you’ll have one more round of golf to complete your journey. Today’s featured course is Hamar in the Borgarnes area, which is fast becoming one of the top courses in the country. The signature hole here is no. 12 (par 3) that resembles the famous 17th hole at Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass in Florida, USA. Afterwards, head back to Reykjavik and return the rental car before settling in at your accommodation.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

Driving distance approx. 90 km / 56 mi.

  • Day 14: Departure Day

When it’s time to fly home, you will be picked up by a driver and transferred to the airport.

If your flight is in the afternoon, you could use this opportunity to keep the rental car a day longer and play at the Leiran golf course on Reykjanes Peninsula followed by a relaxing bath at the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa on your way to Keflavik Airport.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Thoroughly enjoyed our travels

...Although we had to cut our trip short, we thoroughly enjoyed our travels and we immersed ourselves in the many natural beauties of Iceland. We have already praised your company and the services you provide and we will continue to promote Nordic Visitor as we share photos and travel stories with friends. THANK YOU ALL!

We will definitely be back

Traveling through Iceland is what dreams are made of! There is so much natural diversity in such a short distance that it is a geological wonderland. We will definitely be back.

One of our best tours ever

The annotated map, showing points of interest was extremely helpful.  We used it the entire tour. Also, the GPS navigation system provided by the car rental company was indispensable. All of the documents provided by Nordic Visitor were excellent. Our tour of Iceland was one of our best ever, and we have been all over the world. Nordic Visitor made all the arrangements, did a great job of communication, documentation, and selection of facilities and points of interest.
