  • Day 1: Welcome to Iceland - The magical Blue Lagoon

Upon arrival in Iceland you will pick up your rental car at Keflavik International Airport (KEF) and receive Nordic Visitor‘s customised travel documents. Next up is a pre-booked visit to the world famous Blue Lagoon*, a one-of-a-kind geothermal spa surrounded by unique lava rock formations—the perfect spot to unwind after a flight. Allow the healing waters to soothe and reinvigorate your skin in an unforgettable environment. Included with your entrance fee is a drink at the lagoon and two types of face masks which freshen you up for exploring Iceland.

Next you will drive toward the southwest where you will enjoy your Icelandic holiday in your cosy cottage.

Spend the next four nights in southwest Iceland

Driving distance approx. 149 km / 93 mi.

*Please note that if your flight is arriving late in the afternoon your travel consultant will make necessary adjustments to the Blue Lagoon booking for this day.

  • Day 2: EXPLORE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF SOUTHWEST ICELAND

Icelanders are known for „hiding“ in their holiday cottage during bad weather in the winter season. Nothing is better than curling up a good book, with lots of candles lighting the cottage and enjoying quiet time alone. It‘s incredibly cosy to listen to the wind whistling outside, or putting on multiple layers to walk through the heavy, fresh snow fall. Why not live like an Icelander and have a holiday cottage getaway?

    We recommend spending the next few days doing whatever suits your mood. If it is sightseeing, relaxing, reading a good book, hiding from the bad weather in warm wool clothing or just enjoying life, then this is they right holiday to be on. Here are a couple suggestions for exploring some of the best highlights of Iceland for your duration;

    The Golden Circle

Head to the geothermal area of Haukadalur to visit Geysir—the original geyser—or its ever-reliable neighbour, Strokkur, which emits water and steam high into the air every few minutes. Here you can also see a variety of bubbling mud pots, boiling pools and other geological phenomena before making the short drive to your next stop, the majestic Gullfoss waterfall. Considered one of Iceland’s star attractions, this mighty glacial cascade plunges into a 70-metre deep canyon, creating a beautiful cloud of mist and, of course, a spectacular photo opportunity. For a relaxing way to end the day, we recommend visiting either the warm pool at the Secret lagoon or the Fontana Spa at Laugarvatn.

    Duration: Full Day
Driving distance approx. 191 km / 119 mi.

  • Day 3: Black Sand Beaches, Waterfalls & Glaciers

Visit Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can have the unique experience of walking behind the giant misty cascade. Just a short drive brings you to yet another gorgeous waterfall, the 60-metre high Skógafoss. At the volcanic black sand beach south of Vík, we recommend a stop to enjoy the fantastic views of the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations. You also have the opportunity today to join a guided glacier hike, ATV tour or Snowmobile tour (optional; not included) on the Mýrdalsjökull and Sólheimajökull glaciers.

    Duration: Full Day of Exploring
Driving distance approx. 258 km / 160 mi.

Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 4: CITY SIGHTS OR CHARMING FISHING VILLAGES

The Capital of Iceland - Reykjavik (Half to Full Day)

Reykjavik is just a short drive away so you can head over to the city if you didn´t have time on arrival. The downtown area offers a great variety of museums, art galleries, coffeehouses, shops, and of course sights like Hallgrímskirkja church. There‘s also Harpa by Reykjavik's old harbour where you can join optional whale watching tours and enjoy local seafood delicacies straight from the ocean.

Duration: Half Day to Full Day
Driving distance approx. 103 km / 64 mi.

Tiny Fishing Villages of the South Coast

Enjoy the pristine nature and tranquillity that South Iceland has to offer during the winter. There are hiking trails close to your accommodation or you could visit the coastal villages of Stokkseyri and Eyrarbakki. These charming small villages have many well-preserved houses from 1890-1920 and a stunning black sand beach. We recommend visiting one of the geothermal swimming pools in the area.

    Duration: Half Day
Driving distance approx. 50 km / 25 mi.

Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 5: DEPARTURE FROM ICELAND

Head to Keflavik International Airport in time for your flight and drop off the rental car at the rental agency. For those departing in the afternoon, a drive through Reykjavik is recommended where you can visit landmarks like Hallgrímskirkja, where a lift to the top of the church offers you a panoramic view over the city centre, Harpa Music & Conference Hall, and Reykjavik‘s old harbour, among others!

Driving distance approx. 116 km / 73 mi.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

First time booking an organised package

I am a lifelong independent and pragmatic traveller who is used to arranging and organising all aspects of my trips including rearranging etc. for adverse weather, environmental and political reasons, so I was not surprised for the reason your office called me on the first night (as I already knew there was a huge storm coming), but by the fact they called at all. This was my first time booking an organised package and have been more than pleased with your outstanding service and very happy that I chose you.

Perfect way to spend a honeymoon

I could not have wished for a better experience! This was a perfect way to spend our honeymoon!

Didn't feel alone

Booked a trip to Iceland with Larus at Nordic Visitor. I originally felt blind doing this as I did not know much about the hotels and sites but I soon did not feel alone. Larus responded quickly to my every question and inquiry, plus the information Nordic Visitor normally provides made me a knowledgeable traveler. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and our vacation was a huge success!

Everything was better than we could have expected

In booking this holiday our consultant was very helpful in customising the trip to our needs. The service and attention to detail we enjoyed could not be faulted and prior to our trip, we felt no uncertainty with our upcoming schedule upon reading our itinerary. Booking in winter allowed for an extremely affordable trip. We appreciated Nordic Visitor's eagerness to provide any assistance necessary and interest in our experience.

The tour:
- Driver for airport pickup had excellent knowledge about Icelandic history, pointing out various points of interest en route
- Staff at Sunna guesthouse were all very accommodating
- Itinerary very thorough and straightforward, leaving no room for confusion and was open ended and customisable
- Minniborgir Cottages were fantastic (Northern Lights were visible from hot tub and bedroom) , had everything we needed and
the staff were inviting and hospitable
- Iceland was beautiful, tour allowed for us to comfortably visit all major landmarks
- Sjávargrillið in Reykjavik was amazing

Everything was better than we could have expected, best holiday we've ever had. We don't care about visiting the rest of the world any more, nothing beats Iceland.

Already looking forward to a return trip

From booking the holiday, being met at the airport, exellent hotel and accomodation, the friendliness of all the people we met, exellent food and stunning country I can only say we are already looking forward to a return trip.

Northern Comfort in Holiday Cottage

I booked a Nordic Visitor Tour for my partner's 40th Birthday just after Christmas and it was fantastic, we had such a great time. Nordic Visitor's staff were really helpful, there are really well organised. We received all the documentation we needed when we arrived at the hotel including a map, a guide tour as well as a mobile for ermergencies. The hotel we stayed in was very nice and very well located in the city centre although it was quite noisy with some bar or night club next to the hotel which kept us awake. But that's the only complaint we would have as everything else was great. The holiday cottage was fantastic, lost in the wilderness, it was like staying in a ski chalet with its own hot tub outside. We rented a four wheel drive which was part of the package and here again no problem at all, the car was in prestine condition and I would definitely recommend a four wheel drive if you want to travel a little bit further as some of the roads can be challenging.
The highlight of our trip was spending New Year's Eve in Reykjavik. It was out of this world, an explosion of fireworks for at least two hours. It was probably one of the best , if not the best New Year's Eve we ever had! If by chance you are going at this time of year I would recommend watching the fireworks from outside the Cathedral, but beware if you have children as in Iceland there are no restrictions on fireworks and anyone can fire them from pretty much anywhere and we had a few passing by dangerously near! But do not let this putting you off as there were fantastic firework displays.
So overall, I would definitely recommend Nordic Visitor as a tour company as well as the Northern Comfort self-drive package. We are really hoping we can come back one day and see the Northern Lights as unfortunately we were not lucky that time.
