  • Day 1: Welcome to Reykjavik

On arrival to Keflavik Airport, you will be greeted by a driver who will take you to your accommodation in Reykjavík. After settling in, the rest of the day is free for you to explore the vibrant city centre with its many museums, cafes and other attractions to suit all interests. Walk along the pond (“Tjörnin”) by City Hall and see the swans, or perhaps visit the Viking wax museum inside The Pearl (“Perlan”), which also offers fantastic views over the city.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

    Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 2: Historical Þingvellir & Swimming Between the Continents

Collect your rental car in the morning and start your journey to the beautiful and historical Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Þingvellir plains are located on the North Atlantic rift that splits the island between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This gives you a unique opportunity to try “swimming between the continents” on a snorkelling or diving tour (optional).

From the park, you can also visit the nearby volcanic crater of Kerið before continuing towards your accommodation. Later in the evening, if the skies are clear, you may even see another natural wonder—the northern lights.*

Spend the next four nights in South Iceland.

*Please note that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Driving distance approx. 150 km / 93 mi.

    Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 3: Erupting Geysers & Golden Falls

Head to the geothermal area of Haukadalur to visit Geysir—the original geyser—or its ever-reliable counterpart, Strokkur, which spouts water high into the air every few minutes. Here you can also see the amazing variety of bubbling mud pots, boiling pools and other geological phenomena before making the short drive to your next stop, the majestic Gullfoss (Golden Falls). Considered as one of Iceland’s star attractions, this mighty glacial cascade plunges into a 70-metre deep canyon, creating a beautiful cloud of mist and, of course, a spectacular photo spot.

Today you also have the opportunity to go snowmobiling on the Langjökull glacier (optional; not included). For a relaxing way to end the day, we recommend visiting the warm pools and sauna at the Fontana Baths by Laugarvatn.

Driving distance approx. 100 km / 62 mi.

    Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 4: South Iceland Leisure & Exploration

Take it easy today and enjoy the pristine nature and tranquillity that South Iceland has to offer. There are several hiking trails close to your accommodation and you also can head to the nearby swimming pool—a great place to enjoy the company of locals. Another option is a visit to the coastal village of Stokkseyri, where you can explore a Þuríðarbúð—a turf hut in which fishermen lived. More adventurous activities like horse riding, snorkeling and diving can also be arranged.

This is also a great day to taste gourmet Icelandic cuisine at the seafood restaurant in Eyrarbakki, a charming, tiny village with many well-preserved houses from 1890-1920 and a stunning black beach.

Driving distance approx. 100 km / 62 mi.

    Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 5: More South Coast Sensations

Start the day with a visit to the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can experience walking right behind the misty cascade. Just a short drive brings you to yet another gorgeous waterfall, the 60-metre high Skógafoss, and the nearby Skógar Folk Museum, where you can explore the old turf farm outside or check out the interesting artefacts inside.

At the volcanic black sand beach south of Vík, we recommend a stop to enjoy the fantastic views of the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations. You also have the opportunity today to join a guided glacier hike (optional; not included) at the Mýrdalsjökull glacier.

Driving distance approx. 288 km / 179 mi.

Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 6:  Blue Lagoon Relaxation

Enjoy your last full day in Iceland at the volcanic wonderland of Reykjanes Peninsula. Here you have a chance to visit the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, surrounded by surreal black lava formations. The warm, soothing water is rich in silica and blue-green algae, giving the lagoon its reputed healing powers and radiant milky-blue colour. For extra relaxation, take advantage of the saunas, steam baths and the Blue Lagoon waterfall or book an in-water “floating” massage for yourself (optional; not included).*

On return to Reykjavik, drop off the rental car and enjoy the evening at your leisure, perhaps with a fine Icelandic dinner at one of the city’s diverse restaurants.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

*Skin treatments and massages can be booked at the Blue Lagoon for an additional charge. We recommend booking these services well in advance.

Driving distance approx. 260 km / 162 mi.

  • Day 7: Departure

It's time to return home after your wonderful week in Iceland! Transfer by shuttle bus from your accommodation in Reykjavik to Keflavík International Airport in time for your check-in. If your departure flight is in the afternoon, this gives you a great opportunity do some last-minute souvenir shopping or enjoy a leisurely lunch at one of the city’s many charming cafes or coffee houses.

Please be advised that daylight is limited in Iceland during the winter months, with about 4-5 hours of daylight during the holidays, from December to January. Winter in Iceland is considered to be from October to April.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

First time booking an organised package

I am a lifelong independent and pragmatic traveller who is used to arranging and organising all aspects of my trips including rearranging etc. for adverse weather, environmental and political reasons, so I was not surprised for the reason your office called me on the first night (as I already knew there was a huge storm coming), but by the fact they called at all. This was my first time booking an organised package and have been more than pleased with your outstanding service and very happy that I chose you.

Perfect way to spend a honeymoon

I could not have wished for a better experience! This was a perfect way to spend our honeymoon!

Didn't feel alone

Booked a trip to Iceland with Larus at Nordic Visitor. I originally felt blind doing this as I did not know much about the hotels and sites but I soon did not feel alone. Larus responded quickly to my every question and inquiry, plus the information Nordic Visitor normally provides made me a knowledgeable traveler. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and our vacation was a huge success!

Everything was better than we could have expected

In booking this holiday our consultant was very helpful in customising the trip to our needs. The service and attention to detail we enjoyed could not be faulted and prior to our trip, we felt no uncertainty with our upcoming schedule upon reading our itinerary. Booking in winter allowed for an extremely affordable trip. We appreciated Nordic Visitor's eagerness to provide any assistance necessary and interest in our experience.

The tour:
- Driver for airport pickup had excellent knowledge about Icelandic history, pointing out various points of interest en route
- Staff at Sunna guesthouse were all very accommodating
- Itinerary very thorough and straightforward, leaving no room for confusion and was open ended and customisable
- Minniborgir Cottages were fantastic (Northern Lights were visible from hot tub and bedroom) , had everything we needed and
the staff were inviting and hospitable
- Iceland was beautiful, tour allowed for us to comfortably visit all major landmarks
- Sjávargrillið in Reykjavik was amazing

Everything was better than we could have expected, best holiday we've ever had. We don't care about visiting the rest of the world any more, nothing beats Iceland.

Already looking forward to a return trip

From booking the holiday, being met at the airport, exellent hotel and accomodation, the friendliness of all the people we met, exellent food and stunning country I can only say we are already looking forward to a return trip.

Northern Comfort in Holiday Cottage

I booked a Nordic Visitor Tour for my partner's 40th Birthday just after Christmas and it was fantastic, we had such a great time. Nordic Visitor's staff were really helpful, there are really well organised. We received all the documentation we needed when we arrived at the hotel including a map, a guide tour as well as a mobile for ermergencies. The hotel we stayed in was very nice and very well located in the city centre although it was quite noisy with some bar or night club next to the hotel which kept us awake. But that's the only complaint we would have as everything else was great. The holiday cottage was fantastic, lost in the wilderness, it was like staying in a ski chalet with its own hot tub outside. We rented a four wheel drive which was part of the package and here again no problem at all, the car was in prestine condition and I would definitely recommend a four wheel drive if you want to travel a little bit further as some of the roads can be challenging.
The highlight of our trip was spending New Year's Eve in Reykjavik. It was out of this world, an explosion of fireworks for at least two hours. It was probably one of the best , if not the best New Year's Eve we ever had! If by chance you are going at this time of year I would recommend watching the fireworks from outside the Cathedral, but beware if you have children as in Iceland there are no restrictions on fireworks and anyone can fire them from pretty much anywhere and we had a few passing by dangerously near! But do not let this putting you off as there were fantastic firework displays.
So overall, I would definitely recommend Nordic Visitor as a tour company as well as the Northern Comfort self-drive package. We are really hoping we can come back one day and see the Northern Lights as unfortunately we were not lucky that time.
