  • Day 1: Welcome to Reykjavik

On arrival at Keflavik Airport, you will be greeted by a driver and transferred to your accommodation in Reykjavik. After settling in, the rest of your day is free to explore the vibrant city centre as you wish. The downtown offers an abundance of excellent restaurants and cafés, as well as bars and clubs for those who want to experience the renowned Reykjavík nightlife.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

    Attractions Optional Activity
  • Day 2: Where the Continents Meet

Collect your rental car in the morning and start your journey to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a place of immense beauty and history. The Þingvellir plains are located on the North Atlantic rift that splits the island between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. This gives you a unique opportunity to try “swimming between the continents” on a snorkelling or diving tour (optional; not included) in the crystal clear waters of the Silfra fissure. From the park, pay a visit to the volcanic crater of Kerið before continuing towards your accommodation.

Later in the evening, if the sky is clear, take advantage of your dark, tranquil countryside location to try to spot the northern lights. (Please note that this is a natural phenomenon, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.)

Driving distance approx 150 km / 93 mi

Spend the next two nights in South Iceland.

    Attractions Attractions Optional Activity
  • Day 3: Hot Springs and Golden Falls

Head north to the geothermal area of Haukadalur to visit Geysir—the original geyser—and its ever-reliable counterpart, Strokkur, which erupts metres into the air every few minutes. Here you can also see the amazing variety of bubbling mud pots, boiling pools and other geological phenomena before making the short drive to your next stop, the majestic Gullfoss (Golden Falls). Considered as one of Iceland’s star attractions, this mighty glacial cascade plunges into a 70-metre deep canyon, creating a beautiful cloud of mist and, of course, a spectacular photo spot.

Today you also have the opportunity to go snowmobiling on Langjökull glacier. For a great ending to the day, we recommend dining at one of Iceland’s best lobster restaurants in the seaside village of Eyrarbakki and Stokkseyri.

Driving distance approx. 100 km / 62 mi

Spend another night in South Iceland.

    Attractions Attractions Optional Activity
  • Day 4: Waterfalls and Black Sand Beaches

Start the day with a visit to the spectacular Seljalandsfoss waterfall and enjoy a walk behind its cascade. The next waterfall to visit is the magnificent 60-metre high Skógafoss, which also has a trail leading alongside it up the hill. Nearby is the Skógar Folk Museum, where you can check out the old turf farm or browse the historical exhibits inside.

Further along at the Sólheimajökull glacier, you will have the opportunity to join a guided glacier hike or take a snowmobile tour (optional; not included). Then, head toward the volcanic black sand beach south of Vík for a view of the dramatic Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations.

Driving distance approx. 230 km / 143 mi.

Spend the next two nights in the Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

  • Day 5: Glaciers and Icebergs

Start the morning in the scenic Skaftafell area in Vatnajökull National Park. If you enjoy hiking, you will find many interesting trails here, including a path that leads to Svartifoss, a waterfall known for its dark, hexagon-shaped basalt columns. Then, head east to one of Iceland’s most famous attractions, the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, where you can view floating icebergs and perhaps get a glimpse of curious seals.

    Driving distance approx.260 km / 162 mi.

Spend another night in the Kirkjubæjarklaustur area.

    Attractions Attractions Optional Activity
  • Day 6: Along the South Coast

Today you have more time to explore the area around Vatnajökull National Park. As you head back west today, you may wish to visit some of the south coast’s hidden gems, like the “Elf Cliffs” of Dverghamrar, or spend more time at interesting areas you passed before, like Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar near Vík.

Driving distance approx. 160 km / 99 mi.

Spend the night in South Iceland.

    Attractions Attractions Attractions Optional Activity
  • Day 7: Geothermal Indulgence

Enjoy your last full day of Iceland at the volcanic wonderland of Reykjanes Peninsula. Here you will visit the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa, surrounded by surreal black lava formations. The warm, soothing water is rich in silica and blue-green algae, giving the lagoon its reputed healing powers and radiant milky-blue colour. For extra relaxation, take advantage of the saunas, steam baths and the Blue Lagoon waterfall or book an in-water “floating” massage for yourself (optional; not included).*

    Driving distance approx. 260km / 162 mi.

Spend the night in the area of the Blue Lagoon.

    * Skin treatments and massages can be booked at the Blue Lagoon for an additional charge. We recommend booking these services well in advance.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Flawless

Everything was flawless. There were no bumps in the road. Information provided and suggestions on what to see were extremely helpful. Just a great job overall

Perfect touch

The little hand written notes regarding fun points of interest (good ice cream, hidden waterfalls, etc) was a perfect touch that gave us insight of where to go and truly realize how great a place Iceland was.

Every day was different and enjoyable

We found the whole experience excellent. People are so friendly and helpful and although we encountered some challenging weather conditions, advice and the helpful “road.is” website helped us sail through. There was a lot of driving, yet stress free apart from a blizzard. Doing a circular tour of the country was so interesting, after the first day we thought it may be a case of "same as" but every day was different and enjoyable. We were lucky 3 nights with the "lights" and some beautiful sunny days wonderful sights and beautiful countryside.

What an amazing country

We had a wonderful holiday in Iceland thanks to Nordic Visitor. What an amazing country. I have eaten Puffin, Horse and Reindeer which I hadn't done in the past. We saw the Northern Lights, geysers, glaciers, and waterfalls. Thank You.

Allowed us to get the most out of the holiday

Alexandra was really helpful when our flight was delayed and we were messed around by the airline. Even though our flight did not arrive till gone midnight (9 hours late!) we were still collected by the driver while others were left stranded at the airport - very impressive. The maps and books provided were excellent and allowed us to plan our time and get the most out of the holiday. Overall the accommodation was excellent and experience was amazing.

We have fallen in love with Iceland.

Was by far the best organised trip we have been on, Iceland is such a beautiful place, and Nordic Visitor made it all so easy and pointed out all the best places to see. Our Contact Erla was excellent, very helpful. Loved the champagne and chocolates on arrival at first hotel, a really lovely touch. We have fallen in love with Iceland. Thank you.
