Today, we experience the forces of nature in action! Our journey takes us to Iceland’s south coast, a geological hot spot, where waterfalls, volcanoes, glaciers, black sand beaches, and peculiar rock formations are among the many attractions. Our specialised guide will enlighten us about the area’s rich history and show us the aftermath of the recent eruption at the Eyjafjallajökull volcano.

Later, we return to our accommodation in the Hekla region for dinner and another overnight stay.

  • Day 3: Day 3

As we travel along the famous “Golden Circle” route today, we first visit the Geysir geothermal area to see the colourful mineral deposits, mud pots, steam vents, and spouting hot springs. Next we stop at one of Europe’s most powerful waterfalls, Gullfoss, a protected landmark that was once the centre of controversy as a potential site for a power station. We then visit Þingvellir National Park, situated in an extraordinary rift valley formed by the separation of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Finally, this phenomenal day is topped off with a tour of a geothermal power plant and a greenhouse that harnesses this natural energy.

Overnight stay is at a hotel in central Reykjavík.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Iceland - best family vacation ever!

After many years of cruising the globe, my husband and I and our two teenage boys, decided we needed to explore a new country in greater depth. My husband found Nordic Visitor and worked with Sigfus over a few months to plan the perfect summer family vacation. Everyone was happy - I saw museums in Reykjavik, we all hiked waterfalls and glaciers, and to top it off, there was a bird-watching adventure that led to puffin sighting. Every night we anticipated with excitement the fabulous hotel that Sigfus had selected and were never disappointed. We will be recommending Nordic Visitor to all our friends and look forward to working with them again in the future.

Iceland 2013

I used Nordic Visitor for a trip to Iceland in 2013 for my 10 year old son and I. I knew what I wanted to see and experience on our trip. Nordic Visitor took my list and created a wonderful customized itinerary. Everything was perfect and all arrangements were flawless. I was pleasantly surprised! If you are going to Iceland, I highly recommend working with this group. They are professional, polite, timely and know Iceland!
