  • Day 1: Welcome to Iceland

On arrival at Keflavik International Airport, you will be greeted by your driver/guide who will introduce you to your powerful vehicle: a modified Land Rover Defender on heavy-duty 38” tires. The adventure starts straightaway from Reykjanes Peninsula as you head out to explore this land of extreme nature with a guiding vehicle leading the pack. You will get a feel for handling your jeep as the caravan makes its way to the cottages in South Iceland. In the evening, enjoy a little group bonding over a real Icelandic barbeque with fresh local game and local brew.

Spend the night at a cottage in South Iceland.

    Highlights
  • Day 2: Driving in the highland wilderness

After breakfast and a brief instruction by the guide, it’s time to hit the trails! Depending on the chosen route, you may drive to black sand beaches or glaciers with the possibility of crossing swift glacial rivers. Or you may travel through rough lava fields to see erupting geysers, waterfalls and other natural wonders. It's an incredible opportunity to experience the incredible backcountry of Iceland that few others get to visit. After a day full of adrenaline, you'll head back to civilization in Reykjavík, where you can enjoy a hearty dinner at one of the city centre's best restaurants.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

  • Day 3: Blue Lagoon & Departure

It’s time to head home after your short wilderness adventure, but first you have some time to relax at the Blue Lagoon, the popular geothermal spa on the Reykjanes Peninsula surrounded by harsh landscapes and unearthly lava formations. After a soothing soak in the mineral-rich water, you will be transfered to Keflavík International Airport for your departure flight.

NOTE: If your flight is in the morning, your travel consultant can modify your itinerary accordingly. Also please note that due to scheduled renovations, the Blue Lagoon will be closed 5 - 21 January 2016.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Designed an incredible vacation

When we decided to visit Iceland, we wanted help designing our itinerary and found Guðrún with Nordic Visitor. Via email, Guðrún asked a series of questions which let her get to know us and get an understanding of what we wanted to do, see and travel. Guðrún came back with a great itinerary and with a little back and forth to fine tuning we were ready to go.

Never actually speaking with Guðrún and knowing very little about Iceland, we were not sure how the trip and accommodations would work out. But work out it did and in spades! We've been thrilled with our vacation and sad to leave today. Guðrún planned a spectacular itinerary to Icelands highlights yet left us plenty of time to explore on our own and to go off the beaten path which we did by the hour.

Can't give Guðrún and Nordic Visitors a high enough rating and positive review.

Details: Visit April 2015. South coast of Iceland from Reykjavik through the Golden Circle to the Glacier lagoon. Rented 4x4 Nissan Pathfinder which was worth its weight in gold and it allowed us to go off onto the gravel and mud roads to see the hard to get to sights plus huge advantage when driving in the snow. Booked comfort accommodations.

Gear: You will get soaking wet every day. Bring rain AND windproof pants. Gortex jacket with hood. Wool cap or buy as a souvenir on day one which is what we did. Lots of layers including long johns and under armour. Good, water proof hiking boots with wool socks. Spare pair of shoes to change into. Also glad we had both light gloves and ski gloves. We travelled light and did laundry every 3 days at our assorted hotels.

Enjoyed our week in Iceland and will definitely come back

As we had never visited Iceland before we didn't really have any idea about where to go in the week we had. Erla Sonja arranged everything for us, including amending our tour slightly to allow us to stay an extra night. We all thoroughly enjoyed our week in Iceland and will definitely come back, hopefully for longer next time - we will definitely do it through Nordic Visitor and will most definitely recommend you to anyone else who wants to visit Iceland or anywhere else you cover.
