  • Day 1: Arrival, Explore Reykjavik & Geology Exhibition

On arrival to Keflavik International Airport, you will be greeted by a driver who will take you to your accommodation in Reykjavík. For the rest of the day you will be free to explore Reykjavik, visit museums, landmarks and other places of interest. Downtown Reykjavík offers a plethora of excellent restaurants, cafés, and bars.

We recommend visiting Volcano House where you will find a geological exhibition and fascinating documentaries on Iceland‘s volcanic eruptions, the perfect way to start your visit to the land of fire and ice. Entrance is included and the two films are screened together in English, every hour from 10:00 to 21:00, and the combined running time is 53 minutes.

    Attractions Optional Activity

Today you will enter the heart of a volcano!  Accompanied by experienced guides, you will descend 120 metres into Þrihnukagigur volcano which erupted 4,000 years ago. The dormant Þrihnukagigur volcano is the only place on earth where a huge volcanic magma chamber is accessible to humans. The tour enables you to enjoy many of the most amazing things Iceland has to offer - a great mixture of nature, history and adventure.

After transfer to the Bláfjöll mountain cabin you will be met by your guides and walk 3.3 km. / 1.8 mi. across a beautiful lava field for 45 minutes before arriving at the volcano. Participants will then descend 120m/400ft through the top crater and down to the ground floor of the magma chamber, accompanied by experienced and well trained guides. After approximately 30-45 minutes spent exploring the inside of the volcano you will be able to enjoy Icelandic refreshments before heading back to the city.

This morning we will pick you up at your accommodation and go on a super jeep tour to see the area affected by the Eyjafjallajökull volcanic eruption of 2010.  The excursion takes us to Gigjökull wich is a glacierfall from Eyjafjallajökull.

From Gígjökull, the melted ice from the eruption at Eyjafjallajökull came bursting down and created a destructive flood on its way to sea. From Gigjökull we continue our tour to the beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall where the sure-footed can walk behind the cascade. Along the way we will explore a spectacular hidden canyon with a unique flora, green moss walls and a beautiful waterfall. We will stop at a cosy restaurant where we have an authentic 2-course country lunch (included). After lunch the tour takes us through areas where no normal vehicle can go, travel through areas which were badly hit by ashfall in the beginning of the eruption and drive across glacial rivers on our journey to be able to view the eruption site (if possible due to weather conditions) at the height of 600-700 metres above sea level for an amazing view of the ocean. We will drive along the coast on dramatic black beaches on our way to the impressive Skógafoss waterfall before we head back to Reykjavik.

  • Day 4: The Famous Blue Lagoon & Departure

Today, you will be picked up and taken to the Blue Lagoon geothermal spa. The wonderful water and spa facilities provide a last memorable taste of Iceland and ensures that you are fully relaxed and rejuvenated when taken to Keflavik International airport in good time for an afternoon check-in. (Note: If your flight is in the morning, we will change your travel itinerary accordingly).

Thanks for such a great experience

The Hotel was in the perfect location for us. The Tour Guide was very knowledgeable about the areas (history, geology). I think he made this the most memorable trip we have ever had. My husband and I would not have had as much fun on a big bus tour with lots of people so we were not sure what this tour would be like. It was a small group (just us!) and so we really got a chance to focus on the beautiful location. We loved the city, and loved the trip - again, this was the perfect trip for us! I am very glad I found Nordic Visitor. I am not a very experienced traveler, but wanted to get out and see another part of the world. My husband and I have already talked about going back to Iceland and we expect to book with Nordic Visitor again. Thanks for such a great experience!

Expectations were vastly exceeded

From the onset, the communications with Nordic Visitor were really good. We were able to select the tour that best fit our needs and the experience was extraordinary. In our particular case, there were two labor strikes at KEF that had an impact on our arrival and departure times. Nordic Visitor notified us before the airline about the strike and the impact on flight scheduled, adjusted our tour schedule to accommodate us and even make up some of the lost time. While on day 2, they called the tour guide and notified him of our schedule change the following day due to the second labor strike at the airport. The two key events on our short stay were absolutely fantastic, even to the point of us doing it again!
The people were wonderful, helpful, and the tour out of this world exciting. Whatever good expectations we had were vastly exceeded by the quality and dedication of Nordic Visitor. We would absolutely go to them again for our next and future visits to Iceland and other Nordic countries!

Just show up and enjoy the ride

The trip was fantastic. Jelena was great in fully preparing us for our travels -- especially on such short notice! The taxi driver from the airport was friendly. And of course our tour guide on Day 2 to visit the glaciers, volcano, and waterfalls was excellent. Incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and entertaining. It was so great to have the whole trip planned/booked out for us. All we needed to do was show up and enjoy the ride. Very relaxing. Thank you!

Sleep soundly, in the accommodation type of your choice, and wake up ready to enjoy another day of exploration.
