On arrival to Keflavik International Airport, your driver will greet you and chauffeur you to your accommodation in Reykjavík. The rest of the day is at your leisure. The colourful city centre is always full of life, offering a great variety of museums, shops and cosy cafes to suit all tastes. You can explore downtown easily on foot, and a walk along the old harbour and seafront is highly recommended.

Later in the evening, if weather conditions allow, you will be taken for a super jeep tour in search of the magnificent Northern lights, also known as aurora borealis.* By choosing a super jeep tour, you are able to go to off the beaten track to search for the lights, reaching places that are inaccessible by bus.

Spend the next four nights in Reykjavík.

    * Please note that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 2: Golden Circle Super Jeep & Snowmobile Safari

Today’s adventure is a guided super jeep tour of the sights of the Golden Circle, a popular route in south Iceland that contains some of the country’s most well known attractions. The first stop is at Þingvellir National Park, an area full of unique geology and the site of Iceland’s ancient assembly grounds.

Next is Haukadalur valley, the home of Geysir—the original geyser. While Geysir is currently dormant, its neighbour, Strokkur, spouts boiling water up to 30 metres in the air every few minutes. It‘s a fantastic glimpse in the raw geothermal energy of this volcanic island. Then you will visit the beautiful Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, even more stunning in its white winter coat.

The highpoint of today’s tour is a visit to Langjökull Glacier, where you will enjoy a 1-hour guided snowmobile adventure.

You will return to Reykjavik, where you can enjoy the evening at your leisure. It is recommended to dine at one of the city‘s many highly rated restaurants.

  • Day 3: Relax at the Blue Lagoon & Enjoy Leisure time in Reykjavik

Today, you will be picked for a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon. You will have a chance to bathe in the heated geothermal pool, which is rich with silica and soothing for your skin, and enjoy the unique surroundings. You can also visit a sauna or steambath and chooose from an array of spa services (which must be booked in advance).

After your time at the Blue Lagoon, you will board a transfer back to Reykjavík, where you can spend the late afternoon, and evening, at your leisure. If you are up for some adventure, you can book a northern lights excursion. For instance, you could take a northern lights boat tour, where you could see the majestic lights flicker and dance in the sky, far from the bright city lights of Reykjavik.

  • Day 4: New Year's Celebration in Reykjavík

This morning your Icelandic New Year's Eve experience begins with a local guide showing you some of the main highlights of downtown Reykjavik, allowing you to take part in local traditions. You will have a chance to taste some local food, admire the city's Christmas decorations and have a chance to enjoy fireworks that the guide will set off. You then have the afternoon to spend at your leisure

Tonight, you will attend a festive New Year’s Eve party at the sophisticated Grand Hotel in Reykjavík. Mix and mingle with other guests over an apéritif and then enjoy a gourmet 5-course dinner, paired with selected wines, and live entertainment during your meal. Afterwards, you and fellow dinner guests will be taken to a large neighbourhood bonfire to celebrate with Icelanders. You will then return to Grand Hotel for dessert, sparkling wine and the exciting countdown to the New Year. Once the event finishes, you can head to the city centre and continue the party, like the locals, with music and dancing late into the night.

  • Day 5: Departure from Iceland

Your winter getaway to Iceland has come to an end, and you will have a semi-private transfer from your accommodation to Keflavik International Airport. If you are departing in the afternoon and are interested in adding an optional activity, please arrange with your travel consultant in advance, as there are a limited number of activities available due to the holiday.

    Please note:

For arrivals on the 29th of December, we will move day 3 of the itinerary, the visit to the Blue Lagoon, to January 1st, where you will have plenty of time to relax after the New Year‘s Eve party in the beautiful surroundings and warm healing water of the lagoon.

For arrivals on December 31st, we will move the super jeep adventure from day two, to January 2nd, where you will enjoy the Golden Circle adventure and snowmobiling on Langjökull glacier excursion.

Tour Information

We recommend that all of our travellers read through the following information. You will learn what the tour includes, what to pack for your holiday and useful information about the activities included on the tour.

All accommodation and planned activities (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor. This is a multi-day tour package with no dedicated tour guide for the duration of your stay. For each planned activity, you can expect a different tour operator and guide, and you will have free time in-between activities. Nordic Visitor works with a small group of trusted operators that the company has strong professional relationships with.

Please note that your scheduled transfer to the Blue Lagoon can be on a coach bus, with up to 70 other guests.

The minimum age requirement for children at the Blue Lagoon is 2-years old. It is mandatory for children aged 2 to 8 to wear inflatable armbands while in the lagoon. These are provided free of charge. Please note that only two (2) children under the age of 10 can be admitted into the lagoon per guardian.

This exciting excursion takes you to a glacier to glide across the snow and ice during a 1-hour snowmobile ride. Please note that you must have a valid driver‘s license to drive the snowmobile and be aware that two people share a vehicle and take turns driving.

Travellers can choose to add-on selected optional activities when booking online. Customers can also choose to upgrade bus tours to super jeep tours. It is also possible to add-on extra nights to packages along with customising the tours to client needs. Please contact us for prices and availability for 1 person on this tour.

The best months to experience the northern lights are October through April, with peak visibility from December through February. Please note that as the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, we cannot guarantee sightings even if the tour is operated.

Please be advised that daylight is limited in Iceland during the winter months, with 4-5 hours of daylight from December to January. However, fresh snowfall often gives the appearance of more light, and it is common that houses, streets and businesses are lit up with Christmas lights, so don't fear that you will be travelling in complete darkness.

Although the winter climate in Iceland is generally mild compared to other northern European countries, the temperature can drop below freezing at times. Please bring windproof and waterproof outerwear and plenty of warm layers. Please note that the programme is dependent upon weather and road conditions, and may be altered if conditions are not favourable. For information on weather conditions and daylight hours we recommend visiting our extensive Online Travel Guide

All bookings are charged in Icelandic Króna (ISK), the official currency of Iceland. Prices displayed in other currencies are indicative only and based on the daily exchange rate as issued by the Central bank of Iceland. Therefore, conversions from ISK to other currencies will fluctuate from day to day.

After booking your package with Nordic Visitor, you will be contacted within two business days by one of our travel consultants, who will serve as your dedicated contact person for all of your travel needs before, during and even after your holiday. Your travel consultant will provide you with details about.
