  • Day 1: ARRIVAL & HUNT FOR THE NORTHERN LIGHTS

On arrival to Keflavik International Airport, your driver will greet you and chauffeur you to your accommodation in Reykjavík. The rest of the day is at your leisure. The colourful city centre is always full of life, offering a great variety of museums, shops and cosy cafes to suit all tastes. You can explore downtown easily on foot, and a walk along the old harbour and seafront is highly recommended.

Later in the evening, if weather conditions allow, you will be taken for a super jeep tour in search of the magnificent northern lights, also known as aurora borealis.* By choosing a super jeep tour, you are able to go to off the beaten track to search for the lights, reaching places that are inaccessible by bus.

Spend the next four nights in Reykjavík.

    * Please note that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 2: Golden Circle Super Jeep & Snowmobile Safari

Today’s adventure is a guided super jeep tour of the sights of the Golden Circle, a popular route in south Iceland that contains some of the country’s most well known attractions. The first stop is at Þingvellir National Park, an area full of unique geology and the site of Iceland’s ancient assembly grounds.

Next is Haukadalur valley, the home of Geysir—the original geyser. While Geysir is currently dormant, its neighbour, Strokkur, spouts boiling water up to 30 metres in the air every few minutes. It‘s a fantastic glimpse in the raw geothermal energy of this volcanic island. Then you will visit the beautiful Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls, even more stunning in its white winter coat.

The highpoint of today’s tour is a visit to Langjökull glacier, where you will enjoy a 1-hour guided snowmobile adventure.

You will return to Reykjavik, where you can enjoy the evening at your leisure. It is recommended to dine at one of the city‘s many highly rated restaurants.

  • Day 3: Relax at the Blue Lagoon & Enjoy Leisure time in Reykjavik

Today, you will be picked for a visit to the famous Blue Lagoon. You will have a chance to bathe in the heated geothermal pool, which is rich with silica and soothing for your skin, and enjoy the unique surroundings. You can also visit a sauna or steambath and chooose from an array of spa services (which must be booked in advance).

After your time at the Blue Lagoon, you will board a transfer back to Reykjavík, where you can spend the late afternoon, and evening, at your leisure. If you are up for some adventure, you can book a northern lights excursion. For instance, you could take a northern lights boat tour, where you could see the majestic lights flicker and dance in the sky, far from the bright city lights of Reykjavik.

  • Day 4: New Year's Celebration in Reykjavík

Enjoy an easy morning after yesterday’s adventure. If you do venture out, please note that most businesses are generally open until 13:00 today. After lunch, your Icelandic New Year‘s Eve experience begins with a local guide showing you around the city, allowing you to take part in local traditions. After a stop at the fireworks sales—an essential Icelandic New Year’s ritual—you will get to know Icelandic new years traditions. You will have a chance to taste some local food, admire the city‘s Christmas decorations and have a chance to set off the fireworks that were purchased.

Tonight at 19:00, you will attend an exclusive New Year’s Eve party hosted by Nordic Visitor. This New Year’s celebration takes place at Gamla Bíó, a beautiful venue in the heart of downtown Reykjavik. This party is more than just dinner and drinks. Guests will be able to attend a traditional bonfire where Icelanders gather to sing songs about the hidden people. You will also enjoy entertainment at the venue, and have a delicious 3-course dinner, topped off with sparkling wine at midnight. You will be treated to a roof top view over Reykjavik harbour for the fireworks at midnight. It will be quite the show! Once the exclusive celebration finishes, you can continue the party, like the locals, in the city centre with music and dancing late into the night.

Please note: the party has an age limit of 12 years. If you are travelling with younger children, please contact us; we will be happy to offer an alternative option for dinner on New Year’s Eve.

Your winter getaway to Iceland has come to an end, and you will have a semi-private transfer from your accommodation to Keflavik International Airport. If you are departing in the afternoon and are interested in adding an optional activity, please arrange with your travel consultant in advance, as there are a limited number of activities available due to the holiday.

Please note: For arrivals on the 29th of December, we will move day 2 of the itinerary, the visit to the Blue Lagoon, to January 1st, where you will have plenty of time to relax after the New Year‘s Eve party in the beauitful surroundings and warm healing water of the lagoon.

Tour Information

We recommend that all of our travellers read through the following information. You will learn what the tour includes, what to pack for your holiday and useful information about the activities included on the tour.

NEW YEARS EVE EXCLUSIVE PARTY
The New Year´s Eve Party has an age limit of 12 years. If travelling with younger children, please contact us and we will be happy to offer you an alternative option for dinner on New Year’s Eve.

The New Year’s Eve Party includes alcoholic beverages. In Iceland, the legal drinking age is 20 years old so you might need to present an ID at the event. For those younger and those who prefer not to drink alcoholic beverages, non-alcoholic beverages will be offered.

Please note that a transfer is not included to/from the venue, but it‘s centrally located and within walking distance from most hotels in city centre. It‘s also easily accessible by taxis.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR MULTI-DAY TOURS
All accommodation and planned activities (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor. This is a multi-day tour package with no dedicated tour guide for the duration of your stay. For each planned activity, you can expect a different tour operator and guide, and you will have free time in-between activities. Nordic Visitor works with a small group of trusted operators that the company has strong professional relationships with.

THE BLUE LAGOON
Please note that your scheduled transfer to the Blue Lagoon can be on a coach bus, with up to 70 fellow travellers.

This exciting excursion takes you to a glacier to glide across the snow and ice during a 1-hour snowmobile ride. Please note that you must have a valid driver‘s license to drive the snowmobile and be aware that two people share a vehicle and take turns driving.

ADD-ON & OPTIONAL UPGRADES
Travellers can choose to add-on selected optional activities when booking online. Customers can also choose to upgrade bus tours to super jeep tours. It is also possible to add-on extra nights to packages along with customising the tours to client needs. Please contact us for prices and availability for 1 person on this tour.

THE NORTHERN LIGHTS, DAYLIGHT HOURS & WEATHER CONDITIONS
The best months to experience the northern lights are October through April, with peak visibility from December through February. Please note that as the northern lights are a natural phenomenon, we cannot guarantee sightings even if the tour is operated.

Please be advised that daylight is limited in Iceland during the winter months, with 4-5 hours of daylight from December to January. However, fresh snowfall often gives the appearance of more light, and it is common that houses, streets and businesses are lit up with Christmas lights, so don't fear that you will be travelling in complete darkness.

Although the winter climate in Iceland is generally mild compared to other northern European countries, the temperature can drop below freezing at times. Please bring windproof and waterproof outerwear and plenty of warm layers. Please note that the programme is dependent upon weather and road conditions, and may be altered if conditions are not favourable. For information on weather conditions and daylight hours we recommend visiting our extensive Online Travel Guide

CURRENCY RATE
All bookings are charged in Icelandic Króna (ISK), the official currency of Iceland. Prices displayed in other currencies are indicative only and based on the daily exchange rate as issued by the Central bank of Iceland. Therefore, conversions from ISK to other currencies will fluctuate from day to day.
