Everything was perfect. We had no problems. We would definitely recommend them to any one going and wouldn't use another company ourselves to book a vacation with.

Frequently Asked Questions
About Privately Guided Tours
You may have a few questions and queries before you book your private guided tour, so we’ve collected and answered the most commonly asked ones so you don’t have to. If you want more in-depth information, then please read our Iceland Travel Guide or see our FAQs page for information on the booking process, payments and more.
Choose a private tour and your travel consultant will craft a personalised itinerary to meet your group’s travel needs. This includes a handpicked tour guide based on your interests, whether they might be photography, the northern lights or anything else!
After arrival, you will travel with your knowledgeable and fully licensed tour guide. They will drive you around Iceland and escort you to the attractions and hotels on your route.
While travelling, your guide will share their insider knowledge, and their passion for Iceland, making your journey even more interesting and enjoyable.
If your party is interested in meeting other like-minded travellers, our small group tours are an excellent alternative. You travel with no more than 16 people on these packages, so you still enjoy good one-to-one time with your tour guide.
We advise that you check flights for times and prices, then book your package on our website to secure it. Once your tour is confirmed by email, purchase your flights. If you have missed out on specific flight dates, please get in touch with us to change the dates of your tour as soon as possible.
You will meet your guide on the second day of your trip, once you’re rested and refreshed after travelling. When you first arrive in Iceland, your private transfer will be waiting to take you to your hotel in comfort and style. You then have a full day in Reykjavík to relax and enjoy the city at the start of your adventure.
Iceland is a safe and peaceful country with one of the lowest crime rates in the world, and visitors often remark how comfortable they feel. Also, local Icelandic people are used to travellers and tend to be helpful, so don’t be afraid to ask for advice or directions!
It's true that Iceland has active volcanoes, but eruptions occur once every four years on average. The island also sees minor seismic activity, but noticeable earthquakes are rare and the Icelandic Met Office keeps a good eye on such issues. Your private tour guide will be a local, so rest assured they will stay on top of these matters, as well as changing weather reports, to keep your party safe.
Iceland is stunning all year round, so the best time to visit really depends on the attractions you want to see and the season that suits you. If you’re travelling to Iceland to hunt the northern lights, then we’d recommend you visit between October and March, as there’s higher visibility during these months.
Please note that aurora season coincides with wintry conditions, so be ready for snow fall and brisk temperatures. If you’re keen on a trip with a milder climate, then visit in the summer. The days are longer, with midnight sun for a few weeks. And attractions such as Thingvellir National Park are lush and green, and you can see more of the highlands of Iceland.
For a detailed look at your options, read our blog article on when you should visit.
The best time to see the northern lights is during the winter season between October and March. The reason for this is that during the winter months, the nights are dark enough to see them shine and flicker. For the best chance of viewing the lights, stay out past 8pm and visit secluded areas away from the light pollution of the towns and cities, as darker conditions increase your chances of a sighting.
You can enjoy a quick introduction to Iceland in as few as four or five days, but for a more immersive experience, we recommend you spend a week or more here. There’s so much to see – from the natural wonders of the Golden Circle to the Blue Lagoon in the Reykjanes Peninsula – that you won’t want to miss out on the many attractions and experiences.
The pace you travel also matters, as you do not want feel rushed during your visit. That's why our packages have been crafted and tested by our local travel specialists to ensure a fulfilling visit every time. Look at the different options to see what suits you best – we can always customise a tour if you contact our consultants.
A local tour guide adds a new dimension to your Iceland vacation. They will help you see Iceland from a local perspective and share their favourite places to go and things to do. Your guide will also make your trip unforgettable by imparting their knowledge of Iceland and its stories. You’ll learn all there is to know about the many attractions you’ll see.
At Nordic Visitor we pride ourselves on our high service standards and carefully choose our guides. When you travel with us, you will have the trip of a lifetime and see hidden gems that only a guide who lives and breathes Iceland would be able to share.
Tipping is generally not expected in Iceland, so providing a gratuity is entirely up to you. If you feel the need to recognise excellent service, your private tour guide will surely appreciate it.
