Itinerary

A day-by-day plan to guide your journey.

  • Day 1: Welcome to Reykjavik, the Capital City

On arrival to Keflavík Airport you are met by your private driver and transferred to your accommodation in central Reykjavik. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city as you wish, perhaps with a visit to one of the many museums or a stroll down the always lively shopping street, Laugavegur. Downtown Reykjavík also offers a wide variety of restaurants, cafés and coffee houses as well as plenty of bars and clubs if you wish to experience the renowned Reykjavík nightlife.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

    Highlights
  • Day 2: Journey to the Highlands & Wilderness Evening

After your morning pick up, you´ll be picked up by the driver and fellow travellers from Reykjavik and head east through the farmlands of the south coast. Closer to Þórsmörk, we’ll turn off the main highway and follow a limited-access mountain road in the vicinity of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. This drive takes us through extremely rugged terrain, like the Gígjökull glacier tongue — an area that changed dramatically after the eruption in 2010. We’ll also cross un-bridged glacial rivers — a true test of our mighty jeep!

On arrival to the mountain huts at Húsadalur, we´ll start with a warm soup for lunch before going on a 1,5 – 2 hour hike, followed by some sauna relaxation and a traditional Icelandic dinner. Afterwards, we’ll spend the evening sharing stories and with some luck we might see the northern lights dancing in the sky.

Spend the night in budget accommodation at the Volcano Montain Hut.

Note: The accommodation at the Mountain Hut is basic and our guests stay in small private rooms with shared bathrooms & showers. The private rooms have made up bunk beds (double lower bunk and single upper bunk).

Please note that in Iceland, the weather is part of the adventure. With that in mind, please note that the itinerary for Þórsmörk may need be adjusted by the guide according to weather or road conditions.

    Highlights Highlights
  • Day 3: Þórsmörk Exploration

At 14:00 we will start our scenic journey out of the Þórsmörk area. Along the way, we´ll see the foothills of the Eyjafjalljokull volcano and the picture-perfect Seljalandsfoss waterfall. We’ll then make our way back to Reykjavik, where you can enjoy the city centre on your own.

For growling stomachs, we recommend dining this evening at one of the gourmet restaurants downtown and trying Iceland’s famous fresh seafood or grilled lamb with a local microbrew—a great reward after your wilderness adventures.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

    Highlights Highlights Highlights
  • Day 4: NATURAL WONDERS OF THE GOLDEN CIRCLE

Visit some of Iceland’s most famous attractions with a guided bus tour around the classic “Golden Circle” route in South Iceland. One of the major highlights on this journey is Þingvellir National Park, a place of great historical and geological significance that is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other attractions include the beautiful two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall and spouting hot springs such as Geysir and Strokkur. On return to Reykjavik, you will also see the Skálholt church, the ancient seat of the Icelandic bishops, and Hveragerði, a small village will numerous geothermal-heated greenhouses.

    Spend the night in Reykjavik.

    Highlights Highlights Highlights
  • Day 5: Blue Lagoon Geothermal Baths & Departure

This morning, you will be boarding a bus heading towards the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa surrounded by dark lava formations—a truly unique scene in wintertime. The warm, radiant-blue water here is rich in silica and algae, giving the spa its reputed healing powers. This wonderful last experience of Iceland ensures that your senses are fully refreshed before your flight.

After a couple hours of enjoying the lagoon, saunas, steam room and other facilities, you will be transferred onwards to Keflavik Airport in time for your departure flight check-in.

Due to renovations the Blue Lagoon is closed from the 24th through the 27th of April 2017 (both days included).

Note: if your flight is in the morning, we can modify your itinerary accordingly. We can also add extra nights in Reykjavik or Þórsmörk to this package on request.

Please be advised that daylight is limited in Iceland during the winter months, with 4-5 hours of daylight from December to January. However, fresh snowfall often gives the appearance of more light, and it is common that houses, streets and businesses are lit up with Christmas lights, so don't fear that you will be travelling in complete darkness.

Highland Winter Adventure, April 2016

The best trip ever!

I couldn't have been happier with my trip to Iceland. Everything was easy and taken care of. No hassle getting picked up late. All of my guides were friendly and informative. I can't wait to book another trip through Nordic Visitor.

Nordic Awesome

My father and I used Nordic Visitor to book our February father/daughter trip to Iceland. These guys were great! They let us customize our own package, allowed to to make scheduling changes at the last minute and were concerned with customer service every step of the way.

Larus helped us with our rather complicated arrangements just three weeks before we left and I was nervous. However, all was well as they allowed us to take a package and shave off part of the guided tours and rent a car to drive further south, instead. They booked for us nice hotel rooms along the way and for the most part were reachable whenever we needed them

Out trip to Iceland was great and I have Nordic Visitor to thank for the hassle-free vacation.
