The first part of the day will take you around the classic “Golden Circle” route. You’ll stop in Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can walk through the rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Next up is the Haukadalur geothermal area, home of Geysir – the original “geyser” – and the more active Strokkur, which spouts water every few minutes. Finally, you will witness the majestic two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall.
Then the highland adventure begins! You’ll meet fellow travellers to journey via super jeep into the central region of Iceland, a place few get to visit. Your destination is the Highland Base, located in the Ásgarður valley at the edge of the Kerlingafjöll mountains. Kerlingafjöll is a paradise that is picturesque in winter with its steaming geothermal valleys, glacial rivers, snow fields and sweeping panoramas.
Spend the evening at your leisure. You could visit the geothermal hot springs at your accommodation before enjoying a hearty dinner with other travellers. If weather conditions allow you might even see the northern lights* dancing over the Base.*
Spend the night at the Highland Base.
*Please note that the Highland Base Baths are still under construction. They expect this will be ready for guests over winter 2023.
*The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed. Please check if weather conditions and visibility are favourable.
