  • Day 1: December 29 - Welcome to Iceland – The Island in the North

Upon arrival in Iceland you will pick up your rental car at the airport and receive your customised travel documents from your local travel expert at Nordic Visitor. If you arrive early, we recommend a leisurely drive through the capital of Iceland, Reykjavik. The downtown area offers a great variety of museums, art galleries, coffee houses, shops, and of course sights like Hallgrímskirkja church, Harpa music hall by the Reykjavik's old harbour where you can join optional whale watching tours and enjoy local fish delicacies straight from the ocean. Next up is a drive over to Hellisheiði where you will see white steam rising straight from the earth. The Hellisheiði power plant is on your way driving to the small village of Hveragerði.

Continue the drive to Hotel Grímsborgir, a beautiful hotel located along the Golden Circle, just a short drive from the UNSECO park – Þingvellir. You will be spending 4 nights in a superior room which gives you the advantage of not having to repack and change locations. After checking in at the hotel we recommend unwinding in the outside hot tubs.

Spend the next four nights at Grímsborgir (Superior Double Room).

Note; Dinner is included on the 31st of December and the 1st of January at Hótel Grímsborgir. Your local travel expert would however be happy to offer restaurant recommendations along your route and reserve a table for your visit.

Here you can also see the amazing variety of bubbling mud pots, boiling pools and other geological phenomena before making the short drive to your next stop, the majestic Gullfoss (Golden Falls). Considered one of Iceland’s star attractions, this mighty glacial cascade plunges into a 70-metre deep canyon, creating a beautiful cloud of mist and, of course, a spectacular photo opportunity.

Today you also have the opportunity to go snowmobiling on the Langjökull glacier (optional; not included). For a relaxing way to end the day, we recommend visiting either the warm pool at the Secret lagoon or the Fontana Spa at Laugarvatn.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Very Helpful

I booked my trip to Iceland with this company. They were extremely pleasant to work with. Lars was my main guy, and he was very helpful throughout my trip, from preplanning to bumps along the way. One unique feature here that I did not have in all my world travels is the company gives you a local cell phone to use during your trip! This really came in handy when winter weather delayed a transfer out of the capitol, and Lars rebooked me at the Hotel Fron.

Really nice professional people!

Nordic Awesome

My father and I used Nordic Visitor to book our February father/daughter trip to Iceland. These guys were great! They let us customize our own package, allowed to to make scheduling changes at the last minute and were concerned with customer service every step of the way.

Larus helped us with our rather complicated arrangements just three weeks before we left and I was nervous. However, all was well as they allowed us to take a package and shave off part of the guided tours and rent a car to drive further south, instead. They booked for us nice hotel rooms along the way and for the most part were reachable whenever we needed them

Out trip to Iceland was great and I have Nordic Visitor to thank for the hassle-free vacation.
