SEE MANY OF ICELAND'S TOP HIGHLIGHTS IN 9 DAYS

Summer or winter, there's a lot you can see and do with a 9-day itinerary in Iceland.

Most visitors choose to spend a week or more in Iceland to venture further out of the Reykjavik area and experience more of Iceland's natural wonders along the Ring Road. With a fascinating array of glacial and volcanic landscapes just a few hours' drive from the capital city, it's easy to explore the south or west of Iceland in just over a week, either on your own with a rental car or with a local guide in a small group tour.

A 9-day tour at any time of year allows you take in attractions such as waterfalls, glaciers, hot springs, volcanic sites, geothermal baths and more. And in winter, you might even see some spectacular northern lights in the night sky.

Want to drive the entire Ring Road? To travel the full circle around Iceland at a relaxed pace, we strongly recommend a tour of 10 days or more.

Nordic Visitor offers a wide range of self-drive tours in Iceland that can be customised to your liking, such as with extra nights and optional activities added to your itinerary.

Will book with Nordic Visitor again

This was the first time I've booked a trip like this- with reliance on an agent to handle the booking- and it was a wonderful experience. The amount of information provided to us for the trip, and the detailed notes as well as the insider recommendations made the trip incredibly special- and I'm already looking at another one for next year! It was also invaluable to have a local agency plan this: the insight and details as a result of my trip being handled by someone who is from the destination, made the difference. Dagný was great- and I will absolutely be booking with NordicVisitor again, and- have a friend already planning a trip for next May and she will be booking with you!

We saw the Northern lights

Amelia and myself really enjoyed the tour. I was very surprised that the tour was happening although there were only five of us. We really appreciate it very much that you made the tour happened as Amelia could not travel on other timings. Hotels were comfortable and meals were good. The tour itinerary met our expectation as we were introduced to what Iceland could offer as a whole. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and told us interesting stories. I have never heard of Iceland sagas before this trip. He was so enthusiastic about the Northern Lights! I am so glad I saw it and he took a photo of us for our remembrance. After seeing it on 15 April he still continued to go out on subsequent evenings to see if we could view it further as he said that might a chance to see it. That was commendable although we did not see it again.

Sorry to leave

Anita was great. She set up our itinerary and had things lined up and answered all my questions promptly and efficiently. Tour guide was awesome. I cannot praise her highly enough. She was highly professional, and still warm, personable, friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and handled a diverse group beautifully. The greenhouse was fascinating. And, I thought the addition of a few hours at a local farmer's home was the icing on the cake. We got to meet a farmer and his family and get a sense of what life is like for them. Super! I was sorry to leave and want to come back!

Thanks for everything

Our tour guides we awesome. The lady that did our city tour was well informed and kept the kids entertained. After that tour, I was looking for street art whenever we walked somewhere. Our tour guide that we had for the golden city tour was well versed and loved her job. Throughout the whole experience, I never had a bad customer service experience and welcomed by all. We were a bit bummed that it snowed the second day, but that only last a little bit. Since moving to the UK the kids haven't seen snow, so it was fun to have a snowball fight. Thanks for everything, the trip was grand.

Truly amazing

Arnar was my Nordic Representative. very good. Our guide Christine provided an excellent tour for us. I am so glad we chose to go with the guided tour. The history, geography, culture and stories of Iceland told to us by Christine made our trip so rich. The Natural Wonders are truly amazing!

Friendly people

We were very impressed by the friendliness of all the Icelandic people we came in contact with. Everyone was helpful, and anxious to please. Our guide was excellent, personable, helpful and knowlegeable in all areas. An added bonus was his guitar playing at our farewell dinner!

Can‘t wait to come back!

My husband and I had the best honeymoon! The tour guide was knowledgable and structured things so well that we were able to view a few extra sights with our spare time. The hotels were all cute and the food was plenty and diverse (but not too outside the norm for people not so adventurous). The stories that our tour guide told us about trolls and elves and the history of Iceland definitely added something to the tour that we would not have had otherwise. It was an amazing experience and I can't wait to come back!
