Iceland Solo Travel

Iceland is one of the world’s best places for solo travel. It’s safe, peaceful, and famous for its natural wonders and friendly locals. With Nordic Visitor, your Iceland solo travel adventure combines expert support with the freedom to explore. Your Reykjavík-based travel consultant will arrange your hotels, itinerary, and local transport. Plus, we’re here 24/7 if you need us.

Travel solo, but not alone, on an Iceland tour

Travelling solo doesn’t have to mean going it alone. Whether you’re joining a guided group tour or heading out on a road trip, you’ll find Iceland welcoming, safe and easy to explore.

With Nordic Visitor, you get the freedom to travel your way, with support at every step. Your Reykjavík-based travel expert will create a personalised itinerary and arrange your accommodation, activities and local transport. Plus, you’ll have access to a 24/7 helpline while you’re in Iceland.

Is Iceland good for solo travel?

Absolutely! Iceland is a popular destination for solo travellers, and with good reason. Not only is it full of incredible things to see and do, but you’ll feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Locals are friendly, English is widely spoken, and it’s easy to get around, whether you’re exploring Reykjavík or the remote Westfjords.

And it’s not just us saying that. Iceland consistently ranks among the safest countries in the world – you’ll often find it at the top of the World Happiness Report. With a low crime rate, a strong sense of community, and a culture of equality, it’s a place you can travel with peace of mind.

Iceland group tours for solo travellers

If you’re travelling solo but want to meet people, Iceland guided tours are the perfect choice. You’ll explore the country with like-minded adventurers and a passionate local guide. Plus, groups are capped at just 16 guests, so you’ll have time to get to know each other and build real connections.

Joining a group trip is also ideal if you want the company of others without the hassle of driving. Let your trusted guide take the wheel as you discover highlights like the Golden Circle or Iceland’s stunning south coast. You’ll also learn about local heritage and folklore along the way.

Other ways to travel solo in Iceland

Self-drive tours of Iceland let you travel at your own pace, with your accommodation, rental car and route arranged by local experts. You’ll also get a hand-marked map and detailed itinerary packed with insider tips and recommendations.

On a multi-day tour in Iceland, you’ll be based in Reykjavík or Akureyri, and head out on guided day trips to nearby highlights. In between, enjoy time to explore these cities’ cultural attractions on your own.

Privately guided tours of Iceland are a great choice if you’d like the company of a local expert, without joining a group. Your guide will tailor the stops to your interests, drive you to top sights and hidden gems, and share facts and stories along the way.

Is Iceland safe for solo female travellers?

Yes, it’s safe to solo travel in Iceland as a woman. You’ll be treated with respect and welcomed wherever you go, so you can explore with confidence and peace of mind.

Perfect Trip

Outstanding trip from beginning to end. Our travel consultant Gabriela was excellent as was the itinerary & follow-on support. Transfers, car rental, hotels, and optional tours all GREAT!

Great tour

We thoroughly enjoyed 'The Complete Iceland' guided tour. Our guide, Snorri, was friendly yet professional providing personal stories as well as information about the places we were visiting. He made sure we saw as much as possible within the time & weather restraints. We saw so much that it is almost impossible to describe the highlights of the tour.Weather was mixed - take rain gear, warm & quick-dry clothing even in July/August.  All hotels were comfortable & the breakfasts & 3 course evening meals were tasty. We had 11 people on the tour which allowed us to spread out with our day bags on the spare seats. If the bus had been full with 16 the experience would have felt squashed. Take a really small day bag for the bus.

Trip of a Lifetime

We had an amazing 10-day trip to Iceland! Our travel consultant, Clarence , was fantastic and responded to all our questions promptly. Everything in-country was smooth: from the car rental, to accommodations, to our three side excursions, to the actual driving around the ring road.... It was the trip of a lifetime, and we are so happy that our son, a high school senior, was able to experience such a beautiful, diverse country before turning 18. Thank you, Nordic Visitor!

Excellent guide

All pre-travel services were very good. Our driver/guide Fridjon was excellent with a wicked dark sense of humour and provided a real insight into Icelandic culture and history. The range of activities was good, but there was slightly too much bus travel for our liking. Longer stays in several places would have been better.

Great Customer Service

They are extremely easy and good to deal with from overseas (US), with excellent customer service - prompt email replies, clear replies to any questions, and very acommodating. The tours - acommodations, activities recommended, transport supplied - is great. The whole experience, from planning to being there and doing it, is easy and straight-forward.

Fantastic guides

Our personal consultant Gabriela was fantastic. She communicated often and answered all of our questions.  Our driver to and from the airport was efficient and entertaining.Best of all was our guide for the week, Jakob. He was patient, friendly, informative and helpful in every way.

Absolutely fabulous tour company!

Marko was fabulous! So easy to work with and so helpful. We had a few hitches where we found we needed to contact your office and was pleasantly surprised how quickly we were able to get the answers we needed. Accommodation was above what I had expected. I did, however, feel one or two legs of the journey were a bit too long and would have happily extended the trip by about 2 days. The only other tip I would give is to book guests into a hotel next to the international airport on the final night as we had to get up at 2am that morning to get to the airport and drop the hire car off. Otherwise at least book a parking place at the Fron. Other than that I would definitely recommend your company. Absolutely fabulous tour company!!!
