  • Day 1:  Welcome to Reykjavík

On arrival to Keflavik Airport, you will be greeted by a driver who will take you to your accommodation in Reykjavík. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city as you wish, perhaps with a visit to one of the many museums or a stroll down the always lively shopping street, Laugavegur. Downtown Reykjavík also offers a wide variety of restaurants, cafés and coffee houses as well as plenty of bars and clubs if you wish to experience the renowned Reykjavík nightlife.

Spend the next two nights in Reykjavík.

    Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 2: Thrilling Super Jeep Tour- Golden Circle & Glaciers

This day tour starts by visiting Þingvellir, a national park and the site of the world’s oldest parliament, which was established in the year 930. You can enjoy a walk through Almannagjá gorge where you can observe tectonic plate activity, and you can see the beautiful waterfall Öxarárfoss. The tour, which is 10- 11 hours long, will pass the serene Lake Laugarvatn before heading to the hot spring area of the spouting geysers. Geysir‘s active neighbour Strokkur regularly erupts, reaching the incredible height of 20 metres. From Geysir, you will drive to the majestic Gullfoss, one of the most famous waterfalls in all of Iceland. From there it’s on to Langjökull glacier, Iceland’s second largest glacier.

The Golden Circle tour is also available with a snowmobile option, so contact your travel consultant if you would like to add it to your booking.

  • Day 3: CAPITAL OF NORTH ICELAND & HUNT FOR NORTHERN LIGHTS

Head to Reykjavik Domestic Airport for your 45-minute flight to Akureyri in North Iceland. After arriving, spend some time exploring this small, charming city or choose from a variety of optional winter activities. Another option is a walk along the historical town centre along the streets of Hafnarstræti and Aðalstræti to see the old houses and visit the Nonni Museum.

Later tonight, you will be taken for a guided excursion into the countryside in search of the northern lights. This incredible natural phenomenon is only visible at far northern latitudes, making Iceland an ideal base for aurora sightings (if weather and other conditions are favourable).*

Spend the next two nights in Akureyri.

The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and therefore sightings cannot be guaranteed.

  • Day 4: LAKE MÝVATN & THE MAGICAL NATURE BATHS

This day takes you on an amazing journey through an area of extreme contrasts, with rich bird life, unique flora, and bubbling geothermal activity. The Lake Mývatn area is by many considered the most beautiful in North Iceland and at the same time the most catastrophic place on the island. The day begins by stopping at the gigantic Goðafoss, a picturesque waterfall that empties into the Skjálfandafljót River. The first stop near Lake Mývatn is at the pseudo-craters of Skútustaðagígar, where you can see mounds of earth rising, with bubble like forms jutting from the ground. From there, you will visit all the highlights of the area, such as Hverir Mud Pools, Grjótagjá Rift, Dimmuborgir Lava Fields and many more. The final stop by Lake Mývatn before the return to Akureyri is at the Mývatn Nature Baths, where you will enjoy a relaxing time in completely natural pool of geothermal water based in the middle of lava fields with a great view over the area. The admission fee is included in the tour price

  • Day 5:  Journey Back to Reykjavik

Head to Akureyri Airport for your short return flight to Reykjavik. The rest of the day is free at leisure to explore the capital of Iceland. Downtown Reykjavík offers a wide range of attractions, including Alþingi, the Icelandic Parliament, or the bird’s-eye views from the tower at Hallgrímskirkja church, the city’s most visible landmark.

You may also be interested in a leisurely hike in Reykjavik’s natural surroundings, such as Grótta in Seltjarnarnes, the Laugardalur valley, or the wooded Öskjuhlíðin area near Perlan (“The Pearl”). There are also plenty of exciting optional activities and day tours to choose from.

Spend the next two nights in Reykjavík.

From the gorge, the tour continues to one of the country’s loveliest waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss. The sure-footed can walk behind the thundering cascade and perhaps discover the mythical pot of gold said to be hidden there. Then we head to a marvellous hidden canyon, with unique flora, green moss walls and a beautiful waterfall, Gljúfrabúi.

Next, you will be driven through places which were covered by ashfall at the beginning of the 2010 eruption which are only accessible by specially adapted vehicles.Heading back towards Reykjavík we drive along the dramatic black sand beaches on the way to the last stop of the day at the impressive Skógarfoss waterfall.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Winter activity week in Iceland

We spent 8 days in Iceland, with all our activities except 1 arranged by Nordic Visitor (including all transport and accommodation).
All I can say is "seamless, wonderful" - nothing seemed to through them out - bad weather, cancelled flights - Guðrún Eiríksdóttir amended the arrangements within minutes, and we did not miss out on a thing! Their service providers are as high quality as the company itself, and I would not hesitate to make use of their services again - in fact, I would not dream of visiting Iceland without them.
We are already planning a summer visit, to see the other side of Iceland, and I will most definitely be contacting Guðrún Eiríksdóttir to arrange our trip.
Thank you for the most amazing holiday I could ever imagine.

In love with the country and its people

The Winter Activity Week was an excellent introduction to Iceland. It was very well organised but with plenty of time to relax. The accommodation was of a high standard and the staff at all three hotels were pleasant and helpful. The super jeep tours were amazing and the guides were very informative. We learned much about the beautiful landscapes but also the culture and attitudes of the Icelandic people. We have fallen in love with the country and its people, who have a wonderful sense of humour and are very proud. We also like Icelandic beer (visit the Micro Bar in Reykjavik) and food (Tapas Barinn also in Reykjavik) and can therefore say with some certainty that we will be returning one day!

Iceland Winter Trip

We booked this trip through Nordic Visitor and were very happy we did. They arranged everything nicely and we had very good time in Iceland. We got to see a lot of Iceland by the Super Jeep excursions. Also we were flown to Akureyri in North of Iceland to see the Northern Lights.

We will definitely recommend Nordic Visitor for Iceland trips.

It gave me a great taste of Iceland

I really enjoyed it. It gave me a great taste of Iceland and took away all the hassle of searching for tours and accommodation which is important for me because I have limited free time since I work 80-100 hour weeks. It took me to places in Iceland I may not have considered if I booked on my own.

Staff was very helpful setting up the trip with our special requests

Your staff was very helpful setting up the trip with our special requests and making sure things were right while we were on the trip. Our primary purpose for the trip was to see and photograph the Northern Lights, which we were able to do 2 lovely nights in a row. But the entire trip was great -- Iceland and its people are wonderful and we definitely want to return.

The mobile phone is a nice thought

Kristin was very helpful and answered my many questions promptly. The mobile phone provided for cases of emergencies is a nice thought from Nordic Visitor.
