  • Day 1: Welcome to Reykjavík

On arrival to Keflavik Airport, you will be met by a driver and transferred to your accommodation in Reykjavik. After settling in, the rest of your time is free to explore the vibrant city centre with its abundance of museums, restaurants and bars to suit all tastes. If you're interested in checking out Icelandic design or experiencing the city's thriving coffee culture, head to the main street, Laugavegur, and enjoy its various shops and cosy cafes.

Spend the next six nights in Reykjavik.

    Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 2: City Culture from a Local's Point of View

Discover the city's hidden gems with a local cultural expert, who will take you on a walking tour with visits to some of the more unusual and original places for an authentic look at life in the city centre. The guide has an extensive knowledge of the culture and history, so this experience gives you a unique opportunity to see, feel and taste what really makes Reykjavík tick. After the tour, enjoy the city at your leisure for the rest of the day.

    Highlights Highlights Optional Activity
  • Day 3: Blue Lagoon & Northern Lights

Spend the early part of your day in the soothing mineral waters of the Blue lagoon, a geothermal spa surrounded by a stunning lava field on the Reykjanes Peninsula. Here, you will be treated to a 30-minute in-water massage by a Blue Lagoon therapist. Afterwards, enjoy the lagoon, sauna and steam rooms as you wish before heading back to Reykjavik, where you can spend the afternoon at your leisure.

After an early dinner, you will be picked up at your hotel for a super-jeep adventure into the countryside, where you will hopefully have a chance to experience winter's most magical phenomenon—the northern lights. Your expert guide will take you off the beaten path into mountains, far from the glare of city lights.*

*Please note that the northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.

    Highlights
  • Day 4: Golden Circle 4x4 & Snowmobile Adventure

In the morning you will be picked up for a guided 4x4 super-jeep tour of the Golden Circle, a popular tourist route that contains some of the country’s most famous attractions. The first stop is Þingvellir National Park, the site of Iceland’s ancient assembly grounds and the continental rift valley. Next is a visit to the spouting geysers and seething vents at the Haukadalur geothermal area and then a stop for pictures at the Gullfoss waterfall. After a brief visit to the old volcanic crater of Kerið, the last stop of the tour is Langjökull, Europe’s second largest glacier, where you will enjoy a thrilling 1-hour snowmobile safari. On return to Reykjavik, enjoy the rest of the afternoon and evening as you wish.

  • Day 5: Lake Mývatn & the Highlands of the North

Head to Reykjavik Airport for a short 45-minute flight to Akureyri in North Iceland, the starting point for an exciting tour of the magical Lake Mývatn area. A day of spectacular sights awaits you, including the beautiful Goðafoss waterfall, the Skútustaðagígar pseudo-craters, the bizarre lava formations at Dimmuborgir (“Dark Cities”), the warm underground river in the Grjótagjá rift and the Hverir area with its boiling mud pools, steaming fumaroles and sulphur pits. The tour also takes you to the area around the Krafla volcano, with a drive past the geothermal power station bearing the same name, as well as the explosion crater of Víti that was formed in the 1724 Myvatnseldar eruption.

Before heading back to Akureyri Airport for your return flight, you have an hour or two to soak in the soothing geothermal waters of the Mývatn Nature Baths--a perfect relaxing ending to this action-packed day!

You may also be interested in a hike in Reykjavik’s beautiful outlying areas, such as Grótta in Seltjarnarnes, Laugardalur Park or the peaceful forested area of Öskjuhlíðin near Perlan (“The Pearl”). Iceland holiday

Nordic Visitor was the only travel agency that really took the time to understand what I was looking for instead of merely sending me pre-fixed packages. Jelena was my travel adviser and she was very efficient and helpful. Can really recommend their work.

Excellent service overall

Booking agent was very responsive and did an excellent job accommodating extras such as horse riding. The hotel was very comfortable and location was excellent, I was just steps away from the central shopping street. All the tours were well-arranged. All guides were very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I was very impressed and very pleased with the planning and execution. Excellent service overall from everyone I came into contact with.
