  • Day 2: Golden Circle & Northern Lights

Your driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel in the morning for a trip around the amazing “Golden Circle”, starting with the beautiful Þingvellir National Park. Next on the route is the Haukadalur geothermal area, home of the original geyser, Geysir. Closeby is the two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall, often called Iceland's star attraction, which is especially majestic in the wintertime.

From there, your private tour continues to the south coast, where you have the opportunity to enjoy an exquisite dinner at your accommodation (optional; not included), surrounded by the beautiful nature of South Iceland.

After dinner, your guide will take you on a northern light hunt this evening (if conditions are favourable).

Spend a night in Hvolsvöllur area

  • Day 3: South Coast Sensations

Today, your guide will start your journey with visits to the charming Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls followed by a stop in Skógar, where you can explore the local folk museum with its many interesting artefacts and old turf farm. Next on the agenda is the Mýrdalsjökull glacier, where you can enjoy an optional glacier hike if you're feeling up to the challenge (optional; not included). The last stop of the day is the stunning black volcanic beach south of Vík and the Dyrhólaey and Reynisdrangar rock formations.

Spend another night in South Iceland.

  • Day 4: Departure with a Twist

On your way towards the airport, your guide will take you to Lake Kleifarvatn and the moon-like Krýsuvík area, where you can see hot springs and bubbling mud pots. The grand finale is a stop to the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa surrounded by black lava formations. The waters here are rich in silica and blue-green algae, giving the lagoon its reputed healing powers. This is a wonderful last taste of Iceland, and it ensures that you are fully relaxed before your afternoon check-in Keflavik International Airport.

*Please note that the service of the tour guide concludes in the afternoon. We can modify the activities of this day accordingly for evening departure flights.

Please be advised that daylight is limited in Iceland during the winter months, with 4-5 hours of daylight from December to January. However, fresh snowfall often gives the appearance of more light, and it is common that houses, streets and businesses are lit up with Christmas lights, so don't fear that you will be travelling in complete darkness.

Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Designed an incredible vacation

When we decided to visit Iceland, we wanted help designing our itinerary and found Guðrún with Nordic Visitor. Via email, Guðrún asked a series of questions which let her get to know us and get an understanding of what we wanted to do, see and travel. Guðrún came back with a great itinerary and with a little back and forth to fine tuning we were ready to go.

Never actually speaking with Guðrún and knowing very little about Iceland, we were not sure how the trip and accommodations would work out. But work out it did and in spades! We've been thrilled with our vacation and sad to leave today. Guðrún planned a spectacular itinerary to Icelands highlights yet left us plenty of time to explore on our own and to go off the beaten path which we did by the hour.

Can't give Guðrún and Nordic Visitors a high enough rating and positive review.

Details: Visit April 2015. South coast of Iceland from Reykjavik through the Golden Circle to the Glacier lagoon. Rented 4x4 Nissan Pathfinder which was worth its weight in gold and it allowed us to go off onto the gravel and mud roads to see the hard to get to sights plus huge advantage when driving in the snow. Booked comfort accommodations.

Gear: You will get soaking wet every day. Bring rain AND windproof pants. Gortex jacket with hood. Wool cap or buy as a souvenir on day one which is what we did. Lots of layers including long johns and under armour. Good, water proof hiking boots with wool socks. Spare pair of shoes to change into. Also glad we had both light gloves and ski gloves. We travelled light and did laundry every 3 days at our assorted hotels.

Effortless

We used Nordic Visitor to book our Iceland new year trip fairly last minute. Can't fault them - we had a fantastic experience and the whole process was so straightforward and felt effortless. Before travelling we were in regular contact with our agent (Hafdis) who was quick to respond on working days and answered all our questions. We were free to book extra activities as and when we found them (which we did a few times!) rather than booking them all ahead of time. They were easy to contact whilst in Iceland as they gave us a local mobile phone with credit. We got upgraded rooms in half the (fantastic) hotels we stayed in and our car was upgraded too. Thanks for your help - our trip was great!
