Next, you will visit the great Geysir area with its spouting geysers and colourful hot springs. The tour will continue to the waterfall Gullfoss, where you can see white water thrash and tumble down two-tiers, falling metres below before heading to Langjökull glacier.

  • Day 3: Highland Safari & Landmannalaugar Hot Springs

Today you will journey into the rugged “no man’s land” of the interior highlands. This drive takes you on a rough mountain road through the Þjórsárdalur valley, once a prosperous farmland until it was devastated by an eruption from one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes, Hekla, in 1104.

Along the way there will be a stop at the Hjálparfoss waterfall before reaching the otherworldly Landmannalaugar area, where you can bathe in a secluded hot spring pool in pristine natural surroundings. After the refreshing soak, you will head back to the south coast with a view to the notorious Hekla, which in the old days was believed to be an entrance to hell.

Spend the night in the Selfoss area.

Average Driving Distance: 276 km / 171 mi.

  • Day 4: South Coast & Departure Day

You will need to get early start this morning to take in all the amazing sights! On today’s drive, you will be treated to some of the best-known natural wonders of south Iceland, including the spectacular waterfalls of Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss – each with a pathway leading you alongside (or even behind!) the misty, roaring cascade. And no trip to the south coast is complete without a visit to the black volcanic beach near the town of Vík, where you will have a great view of the stunning Dyrhólaey cape and the Reynisdrangar basalt sea stacks.

After the sightseeing, your guide will drive you to Keflavík International Airport for your departure flight.

*Please note that the service of the tour guide concludes in the afternoon. We can modify the activities of this day accordingly for evening departure flights. If your return flight is in the morning we can add an additional night in Reykjavik before your departure.

Tour Information

We recommend that all our travellers read through the following information about what the tour includes and useful information about the activities included on the tour.

Let us help you make this the tour of your dreams, according to your specific needs and interests. This package can be customised with extra nights, optional activities and other changes to the itinerary. Contact us for details. All accommodation and planned activities (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor.

Our team of local travel experts at Nordic Visitor have compiled a list of wonderful hotels for your stay in Iceland. We carefully select hotels/guesthouses in Reykjavik and the countryside based on excellent ratings, personal experience and comfort. Single, double and triple rooms are available for our packages. Please note, that in Iceland our room types are based on European standard sizes. For instance, a double bed often consists of two single beds pushed together. Triple rooms include a double bed along with an extra bed, a rollaway or a sofa bed, and a single room is often smaller than the standard double.

Travellers can choose to add-on selected optional extras when booking online. It is also possible to add extra nights to packages along with customising the tours to client needs. Please note, the optional extras are not private unless otherwise stated.

Please note that sightseeing is dependent on weather and road conditions and might need to be altered if conditions are not favourable. Please be advised that days are long in Iceland during the summer, with almost 24 hours of daylight at the summer solstice. It is advisable to bring a sleep mask as some find it difficult falling asleep at night.  For more information on weather conditions and daylight hours, we recommend visiting Nordic Visitor’s Online Travel Guide.
