A scenic falls that's worth the hike
Not far outside of Egilsstaðir, along the main route to Seyðisfjörður, is the scenic Fardagafoss waterfall. It winds its way down the mountainside at Fjardarheiði and there is a parking lot from which 30-minute hikes to the falls can begin.
The hike allows visitors to take in the beautiful gorge and views over the surrounding valley. Note that the terrain can be challenging, with the last portion of the hike requiring the aid of a chain drilled into the rock to descend to the falls. This hike should only be attempted by hikers with sturdy hiking shoes or boots.
